A teenager was reportedly crushed while playing in old war tunnels near a popular Sydney beach.

The male victim, believed to be a teenager, suffered injuries to his legs and one of his arms when a large iron door fell on him while he was playing in the old war tunnels near Malabar in the south-east of the city.

Malabar Battery was a coastal defense station built on the Malabar headland in 1943 during World War II.

It features a four-story observation post and a series of bunkers and tunnels.

The site fell into disrepair after the war and is now abandoned and covered in graffiti.

“A boy in his teens was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital with a leg injury,” a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.

Daily Mail Australia has approached NSW Police for comment.
