Makeup artist reveals VERY common mistake that can RUIN the look of your foundation and make it appear ‘super patchy’ – as she details simple fix that will guarantee a ‘flawless’ complexion
A makeup artist has revealed a seemingly innocent beauty flaw that can actually ruin the look of your foundation.
The video was shared by Melanie, an American content creator who goes by the username @melbellles and often shares her expertise, tips, tricks and other style content on her social media platforms.
In the clipwhich was part of her 'quick makeup tips' series, Melanie explained exactly what can make your foundation look 'super patchy', and how a simple, extra step can help.
According to Melanie, the mistake occurs when people use a damp makeup sponge to apply their foundation and fail to squeeze out enough liquid before using it to apply their product.
“If you want to achieve a flawless foundation application, it's very important not to oversaturate your beauty sponge,” Melanie explained at the beginning of the video.

Melanie explained why it's 'so important' not to get your beauty sponge too wet when applying your foundation
'Whether you dampen it with water or setting spray, make sure this is squeezed out completely so no liquid drips out.'
Many makeup application sponges, such as the Beauty Blender, are intended to be used when wet because they can keep your makeup from being “absorbed,” the researchers said. To tempt.
The sponge also helps reduce makeup waste.
But if it's too wet, Melanie explained, it can have a detrimental effect on how your foundation looks on your face.
“If it's too saturated, you're going to lift your foundation, which will make it look super patchy,” Melanie continued.
“Even if you think it's dry enough, give it a quick squeeze to get all that extra moisture out.”
Speaking to DailyMail.com, Melanie explained that there were more terrible makeup effects that came from using a sponge that was too wet.
“Not only will an oversaturated beauty sponge lift a lot of product that's already been applied, it will also make your foundation show through, giving you much less coverage than that formula provides,” she told DailyMail.com.
In the video, Melanie warned about squeezing the water out of the Beauty Blender or your foundation could look 'patchy'

“Even if you think it's dry enough, squeeze it again to get all that extra moisture out,” Melanie said in the video
'You can use water or a setting spray to dampen the sponge, but make sure any excess moisture has been completely squeezed out.'
However, that wasn't the only warning Melanie had for viewers about applying makeup with a beauty sponge.
While you never want to use a sponge that's too wet, you also never want to use a sponge that's dry, she advised.
“Never use a dry beauty sponge, please,” Melanie warned in a new one TikTok video posted this week.
“Not only can this make your foundation super patchy, but it will also eat up a ton of your product.”
She said if water wasn't 'accessible' to wet the blender, you could use a setting spray instead.
Last summer, however, some were disgusted to learn what a beauty sponge could look like if it wasn't cleaned often.
Over time, the sponges can suck up dirt, dead skin cells and oils, which in turn can cause diseases like ringworm, pink eye and acne, experts warned.
In another video, Melanie also explained why you should never use a dry beauty sponge

A video posted on TikTok of the makeup remover brand GlamTech revealed what was actually inside makeup sponges and brushes when left unwashed for a long period of time.
In the video, the voiceover said, “Researchers have discovered that brushes and blenders can be dirtier than toilets.”
“This is why people get staph infections, pink eye, and even acne,” the clip continued.
To prevent this from happening to you, it is extremely important to properly clean your makeup tools.
Experts advised people to wash their makeup brushes and sponges every seven to 10 days.
