Worrying update on hunt for Kiwi woman missing in Bali

A worrying update has emerged in the desperate search for a New Zealand woman who has been missing in Bali for four days.

Kaya Awhitu flew to the Indonesian holiday island last Thursday, October 3, but she has not been heard from since Sunday.

But in a major update on Wednesday, Bali police revealed that Ms Awhitu never stayed at the accommodation address they provided for her.

Police had information that she was last seen at Rumah Surga Villa in Ubud, near the world-famous Monkey Temple and Forest.

“New Zealand woman Kaya Awhitu never stayed at Rumah Surga Villa,” Ubud police chief Gusti Nyoman Sudarsana told Daily Mail Australia.

Police checked the villa on Wednesday morning and discovered that Ms Awhitu had never been a guest there.

“Now that we are getting information that she was last seen at Rumah Surga Villa, we have already checked into the villa,” Mr Sudarsana said.

‘All guests staying at Rumah Surga Villa rent the villa on a monthly basis and all guests have been staying there since last year. There was no guest who rented the villa on a daily basis.’

Police Chief Sudarsana added that the police and all related institutions are making many efforts to trace the last traces of Mrs. Awhitu.

“Efforts to find Kaya Awhitu are still ongoing,” he said.

The update comes after the family of a missing woman in New Zealand raised the alarm.

“This isn’t like them! We are so worried,” they wrote online.

“If anyone knows the authorities in Bali we can contact for assistance, please message me.”

Adding to her family’s concerns is the fact that Ms Awhitu has been active on Facebook Messenger but has not responded to their messages.

“We know there is activity on her messenger, but we believe it is not her,” they said.

“She may be having some downtime, but this is still unusual. Please let us know you are doing well, Mom.”

Shar Roberts said Ms Awhitu’s family were concerned after she failed to meet her partner to get to their next destination on the island.

“They were supposed to meet by boat to go to the next place, but she didn’t show up,” she said in a video on Facebook.

‘He went back to the villa where they were staying and everything was packed.

‘We were really concerned because she hasn’t been in contact with anyone since Sunday, especially her sons.

“If anyone hears anything, she will be grounded if we hear from her, but please let us know that her family and friends are really concerned.”
