Major Google Tasks upgrade means it might finally be worth using now

One of the most underrated tools in Google Workspace is getting a major upgrade that should mean never missing out on important events or jobs again.
The update to Google Tasks seems to make the app a central hub for all your activities in Workspace, connecting Gmail and Google Calendar.
The upgrade will migrate reminders from Assistant and Calendar to Google Tasks, which the company says is “an easy way to view and manage all your tasks in one place.”
Google Tasks boost
Launched in 2018, Google Tasks may have gone unnoticed by many users, but the company wants to turn that around with its new changes.
In the future, Tasks will integrate directly with Workspace apps like Gmail, Google Chat, and Calendar, meaning you can add it to your to-do list as new tasks arrive.
Users can select a new “Add to Tasks” button in Gmail, create tasks directly from Google Chat, and create a task in Google Calendar to ensure they have the time to get it done.
Once created, all these tasks can be sorted into lists, with priorities set with the star selection already seen in Gmail and Google Drive – and completed tasks marked as completed with a satisfying checkmark.
Google says integrating Assistant and Calendar reminders into Tasks will also make users’ lives much easier, allowing them to save suggestions or ideas hands-free. If you enter a date or time, your device will notify you when it’s time so you don’t forget.
Users who create a reminder in the Assistant or Calendar in the future will now see a prompt to try Google Tasks, as the company wants to fuel enthusiasm for the move.
“We continue to invest in Google Tasks and expand its capabilities to help you capture, organize and accomplish everything you need to do,” wrote Ilya Brown, VP of Product Management in a statement. blog post (opens in new tab) announce the news.
“Moving reminders to Google Tasks is a step closer to helping people get things done effortlessly, and we’re so excited to bring it to you.”
