Luke Shaw was still absent from England training on Wednesday due to a heavy blow to Gareth Southgate.

Man United defender Shaw has not played since February due to a hamstring injury but was still picked by Southgate in the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024.

The 28-year-old is the only recognized left-back in the group and was tipped to return against Denmark on Thursday.

However, given that he is still not training with his teammates just over 24 hours after the match against the Danes, Shaw is almost certain he will not play and this raises major questions about his suitability for the tournament.

Instead of participating in team practice on Wednesday, Shaw continued to follow an individual program elsewhere.

It is almost certain that Shaw will not play in the Three Lions match against Denmark on Thursday

It comes after Shaw did not take part in training alongside the non-playing England squad members following the opening match of the Three Lions European Championship 2024 against Serbia on Monday.

However, the left back did join his teammates for certain sessions last week and will continue to be monitored by the staff.

Ahead of the game with Serbia, Southgate had given a positive fitness update on Shaw, as he said: “Everyone is available.

“We have a decision or Luke [Shaw] is possible to use from the couch or not. But everyone trained today and is available.”

Meanwhile, Mail Sport reported last week that the United defender was unlikely to be available to play against Serbia, but if all went to plan it was believed he could be included in the squad for Denmark.

Yet his absence on Wednesday is the latest defensive injury for Southgate.

Harry Maguire, who was ever-present for the Three Lions under Southgate, was unable to prove his fitness for the tournament after failing to recover in time from a calf injury.

Lewis Dunk and John Stones both suffered blows before Stones was forced to miss training last week due to illness.

In place of Shaw, Kieran Trippier took the left back position against Serbia and is expected to continue in that role against Denmark.

Shaw has won 31 England caps since making his debut in 2014 and scored the opening goal in England’s defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

However, injuries have hampered him in the past year as he made just 12 appearances for United in the Premier League last season.
