Major development after man was gunned down in alleged gangland hit on a suburban driveway
A man is starting the new year in custody after allegedly assisting a gunman who killed a man outside his family home.
Romeo Shoker, 25, made no application for release at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday and was formally refused bail.
He has been charged with accessory to murder, accused of assisting a still-unknown gunman who shot a man multiple times in Sydney’s south-west shortly before 7pm on Sunday.
The 31-year-old, named in court documents as David Khou, was leaving his family home when he was killed while getting into a car.
He died on the spot despite efforts by neighbors to save him.
A brief will be filed before Shoker appears in court again on February 27.
He is also accused of refusing to provide identifying information.
An alleged getaway driver has been formally denied bail following the fatal shooting of David Khou in Sydney’s southwest on Sunday
Mr Khou was shot multiple times as he left his home while the gunman was still on the run
The unknown gunman fled the scene on St Johns Rd in a white Audi, which was found in flames on Bathurst St in Wakeley not long after.
Shoker was arrested Monday, with police alleging he drove getaway vehicles used in the shooting.
The murdered man is believed to have links to organized crime syndicates involved in the illegal drug market, police say.
Chief Inspector Daniel Doherty told reporters the motive for Mr Khou’s murder was likely down to “drugs and greed”.
“When you get involved with organized crime networks, and we see it time and time again, there are consequences for them ending up dead on the streets,” he said.
Relatives left behind are mourning Mr Khou’s death, he added.
“No one deserves to be shot multiple times outside the family home, and it is upsetting for the family.
“It’s a very sad, tragic situation, despite what its history may have been, or what its links are,” Det Supt Doherty said.
Significant police resources are being deployed to investigate the brutal daylight shooting in the middle of the festive period and to prevent further attacks in retaliation, he added.
