Major change to JetBlue carry-on bag policy: ‘I haven’t flown with them for that reason’

JetBlue flyers who purchase Blue Basic tickets will soon have the same luxury carry-on luggage as other ticket holders.

The airline announced its decision to implement a new carry-on baggage policy in a press release on June 18.

The policy, which goes into effect September 6, allows Blue Basic ticket holders to bring one free carry-on bag on every JetBlue flight, in addition to their current personal items allowance such as a purse or suitcase.

“We continually review our product offerings to ensure we have the right mix of low fares and amenities to exceed our customers’ expectations and remain competitive in the airline industry,” a JetBlue spokesperson wrote in an email to Daily Mail.

“We believe this move will increase customer satisfaction and provide another reason to book with JetBlue.”

JetBlue President Marty St. George said in the press release that this move is “a win-win situation” for the airline and is aimed at improving “the customer experience.”

“Carry-on luggage is an important part of travel for customers, and given the choice between JetBlue’s award-winning service and another airline’s basic offering, we want JetBlue to be the easy winner,” St. George said.

‘We are always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences.’

Although this policy will go into effect this fall, JetBlue noted that some carry-on bags may still need to be checked due to the small space in the aircraft’s compartments.

“As flying becomes cheaper and more accessible to a wide range of customers, a one-size-fits-all offering no longer works,” says St. George.

“Whether a customer prefers more included benefits or is shopping based solely on price, our fare options, combined with our great inflight service, make JetBlue the best choice.”

The current policy for flyers with Blue Basic fare tickets does not allow the passenger to carry carry-on luggage.

However, flyers with Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra and Mint tickets can bring one piece of carry-on luggage on their flights.

Flyers with Blue Basic tickets are the last group to board a JetBlue flight, meaning these flyers may have the best chance of checking their carry-on bags for free if necessary.

The new policy has excited X users (formerly Twitter) and one person tweeted“Thank God I didn’t fly with them for that reason.”

All carry-on luggage must fit in an overhead bin or under the seat in front of the passenger.

If a bag that was expected to be a carry-on exceeds the length or weight, it must be checked and the flier must pay $65 if it is their first or second bag.
