Kuwaiti asylum seeker accused of horrific granny bashing unmasked: Released immigration detainee was already on bail before allegedly carrying out violent home invasion

A recently released immigration detainee accused of preying on an elderly Perth woman in her own home has been in and out of court on other charges this year.

Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan was one of 154 men released from immigration detention after the Supreme Court ruled late last year that indefinite detention was unlawful.

The 43-year-old and two other attackers allegedly beat 73-year-old Ninette Simons until she was unconscious in Girrawheen in Perth’s north on April 16.

The three men are said to have arrived at the home Ms Simons shares with her 76-year-old husband Philip, posing as police.

Jamshidi Doukoshkan appeared in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday charged with aggravated house burglary, assault, detaining a person, theft and impersonating a public servant.

He previously faced the Perth Magistrates Court on February 20, charged with two counts of failing to comply with his control conditions by breaching a 10pm to 6am curfew.

That day, Kuwait had been granted $5,000 bail after the Commonwealth offered no resistance but was warned by a magistrate that he was “on very thin ice.”

Jamshidi Doukoshkan was scheduled to appear in court again on April 5, but the charges were dropped on March 22. The Western Australia.

That same day, a court order requiring Jamshidi Doukoshkan to remain at a permanent address was halted after being in effect for about a month.

Following the decision not to pursue these charges, Jamshidi Doukoshkan was arrested again.

This time he was caught for trespassing and driving with an expired license and was fined $400 by the Perth Magistrates Court on April 10.

He was arrested on Sunday and charged in connection with the Girrawheen home invasion.

Jamshidi Doukoshkan and two other assailants allegedly knocked 73-year-old Ninette Simons (above) unconscious in Girrawheen in Perth’s north on April 16.

The Federal Opposition has called for the immediate resignation of Home Secretary Clare O’Neil and Immigration Minister Andrew Giles.

“If they can’t explain what they’re going to do to make sure this never happens again, they should both resign,” said Liberal Senator James Paterson.

Mr and Mrs Simons were both at their home on Allinson Drive when three men posing as police officers knocked on their door.

As soon as Mr Simons opened the door, he was reportedly pushed to the ground and his hands were tied behind his back.

Ms Simons was reportedly attacked shortly afterwards, with the group holding her to the ground and punching her several times in the face, rendering her unconscious.

It is further alleged that the thieves stole more than $200,000 worth of jewelry and other belongings before fleeing the home on foot.

Ms Simons said the attack left her traumatized and seriously injured.

‘I’m not the same person I used to be, I can barely stand or walk. I used to be able to dance and it is very unlikely that I will do so again,” she said.

“The dizziness is driving me crazy.”

Police have arrested three other men over the incident and are still looking for another suspected perpetrator.

Jamshidi Doukoshkan was released from Yongah Hill Detention Center in Perth last November.

According to a Supreme Court ruling, it was illegal for detainees who could not be deported to be held indefinitely and he was released into the community along with dozens of other detainees.

An Australian Border Force spokesperson said the Department of Home Affairs was aware that a person in possession of a Bridging Visa R had been arrested by WA Police on Sunday.

“The safety and security of the community remains the absolute priority for the Australian Border Force and the Department of Home Affairs, and we will continue to work closely with our state and territory partners,” the spokesperson said.

The investigation is ongoing and one alleged perpetrator remains outstanding.
