A gun shop in Maine has taken in a calf that was shunned by its mother in a bizarre animal adoption.

Adam Hendsbee, owner of A&G Shooting in Fairfield, Maine, shared FOX 22Bangor that he and his wife found the miniature zebu calf in the forest.

“My mother rejected him, so he was shivering and cold and lying in the mud…” he said.

The shop owner added that he and his wife brought the calf into their home, which kept him warm and alive.

The baby cow named Kade is now a regular at the Hendsbee gun shop as the shop owner continues to nurse him back to health.

According to Hendsbee, Kade will be “a permanent fixture” at A&G Shooting in the coming months, as long as he can “fit him in the car.”

Kade has settled into the retail environment and is now around to check out products, snuggle with families and gnaw on a tripod and Hendsbee’s beard.

A&G Shooting employees have enjoyed having the little guy around since Hendsbee brought him to the shop.

β€œHe brings a lot of smiling faces and a lot of kids getting the newer generation involved in things and making the aspect of the gun shop a little warmer,” A&G Shooting employee Payton Atwood told FOX 22.

Customers also love Kade’s presence, with one person calling him “cute.”

‘It’s strange to see animals in shops and not on a farm. It was surprising because I happened to believe it, but it was really fun,” Annalize Lawson said.”

Kade feels comfortable with customers, and even lets them pet the calf and take pictures with him.
