Vanuatu, one of Australia’s closest island neighbors, has been rocked by a massive 6.4 magnitude earthquake.

The undersea earthquake struck north of Vanuatu’s capital Port Villa at about 9:23 a.m. local time at a depth of 32 km, the government-run Geoscience Australia portal said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has declared there is no tsunami risk to Australia.

The island state is located 3600 km off the coast of northeastern Queensland and is home to approximately 340,000 people

It follows a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that occurred earlier this month about 60 miles from Luganville.
