Magnitude 5 earthquake rocks Victoria
Thousands of Victorians have been woken up by a magnitude 5.0 earthquake that has shaken the state’s south-west.
The earthquake was recorded at about 2.11am on Sunday morning near Colac in the Great Otway National Park, about 165km from Melbourne.
A magnitude 3.5 aftershock then struck near Apollo Bay at 5:44 am.
The first earthquake had a reported depth of eight kilometers, while the aftershock had an estimated depth of ten kilometers.
More than 5,000 people reported feeling the first quake.
A magnitude 5.0 earthquake was recorded near Apollo Bay on the Otway Ranges in south-west Victoria
Reports came from as far away as the regional city of Bendigo, the Melbourne suburbs of Reservoir and St Kilda and King Island in Tasmania.
VIC SES has received several calls for assistance, but only minor damage has been reported.
No injuries have been reported.
The first earthquake is the largest in Victoria since the Woods Point earthquake in September 2021.
