The Fallout franchise is one of the most popular post-apocalyptic settings, and with a new Amazon TV adaptation coming in April, the series is on our collective radar. Fallout joins the multiverse of Magic: the meeting, featuring four new Commander decks originally announced in August. Polygon gives your exclusive look at one of the first complete decklists, as well as new card reveals.

The Sloppy survivors decklist looks like it’s built around having a few cheap creatures that can be buffed with powerful auras and enchantments. The Fallout franchise is all about the fusion between old-school technology and post-apocalyptic ingenuity; for every man with a full set of power armor, there are a dozen robbers carrying items they found in scrap yards and dumpsters.
The Sloppy survivors The deck may look like a pushover at first, but once the player builds some momentum, they can grab cards like Mister Gutsy, a new legendary artifact creature, and snowball some big hits. There are also some heavy hitters, like Cass, Hand of Vengeance, whose ability to recycle the auras and equipment of dead creatures feels both thematic and And powerful. Cass is best known for her role as a companion in Fallout: New Vegasand it’s good to see her back in action.

There could be no question of one Sloppy survivors deck without some trash to make use of. Wizards have made a smart move by repurposing the familiar Mantle of the Ancients aura (which first appeared in the 2022 Dungeons & Dragons-themed set, Adventures in the Forgotten Realms) in a twist on the classic Vault suit. But it’s not alone each Safe suit. This is the Holy Vault suit, the same tattered and tattered outfit worn by the original character from 1997 Fallout and again, this time by The Wanderer, in Fallout 2.
In addition to giving this set of cards the three-letter PIP naming convention to distinguish it from all the others Magic sets that have come before, Wizards also gave the iconic Pip-Boy some love. While the Pip-Boy 2000 was first introduced in the original Falloutthis card shows Bethesda’s own Pip-Boy 3000, which serves as the menu system and user interface in the modern incarnation of the Maryland-based company’s video game franchise.

Perhaps the most interesting card in the preview is Vault 21: House Gambit. Vault 21 is another location New Vegas, a former Vault Tec survival bunker that has been converted into a hotel and gift shop. It is part of Mr.’s great empire. House, built along the New Vegas strip, and the best roadside restaurant for tourists to lay their heads between gambling bouts.
Appropriately enough, there is a bit of a gamble involved with the House Gambit. The player discards a card, draws a card, and then reveals up to five non-land cards from their hand. For each of these cards that have the same mana value as another card revealed in this way, they can then create a treasure token. This is a trick that can absolutely backfire if the mana values don’t align – but when things come together, the Sloppy survivors player could walk away with a big score.
Between Cass and the House references, the Sloppy survivors deck seems to be very much in line with New Vegas, one of the most interesting Fallout titles. The Mojave Wasteland is fought over by the NCR, Caesar’s Legion, Mr. House and the independent peoples of New Vegas. Some people in New Vegas may enjoy the wealth brought to them by Caesar’s conquest or Mr. House, but others remain in the dark. Sometimes Strip residents can gamble a hand and walk away loaded with riches – and sometimes the game is rigged from the start.
The Sloppy survivors deck is full of nods and homages to the other Fallout games in the series, including Preston Garvey Fallout 4 And Fallout 76‘s Duchess, owner of the Wayward bar.
