Magda Szubanski shares a health update after the public battle against emotional eating

Magda Szubanski has revealed she is no longer pre-diabetic.

The actress, 62, took to Instagram on Sunday to share a health update, alongside a photo of her very decadent breakfast.

“My latest breakfast invention… scrambled eggs with truffle oil on top of some lightly fried cauliflower with a pinch of vegan Parmesan salt and pepper YUMMM,” she wrote.

The strip then revealed the result of her last blood.

“I cleared my Hba1c (blood test) from pre-diabetes and am back within the normal range,” she added. ‘I’m far from perfect, but I’ll just keep trying.’

The star went on to promote Magda’s Big National Health Check, focusing on the amount of sugar in foods.

‘(Watch it) to find out how sugar is F****ING us and why it’s so hard to be healthy in Australia. 50% of Aussies live with a chronic illness,” she said.

In November, Magda looked visibly distressed as she opened up about her battle with emotional eating on the ABC’s Big National Health Check.

She fought back tears during an interview with weight management expert Dr Lucy Burns, who talked about how some people resort to binge eating to deal with their emotional demons.

“I really think about that feeling of being able to forgive myself,” she said through tears.

‘Because I know people say, ‘Why did she do this to herself?’ And I felt like I had no choice. It was the only sensible decision I could make given the alternatives I faced.”

“And then you become a damn shame magnet,” she added.

“And it’s like you’re not supposed to fight back. You are not allowed to defend yourself. The idea is for you to hang your head again in shame and say, ‘I did this to myself.’

Magda listed her various health problems in an interview with TV Week magazine last October, and said she wondered if there were others with similar problems.

“There are times in my life when I am absolutely struck by illness,” she said.

‘Osteoarthritis, migraines, anxiety – I also suffer from sleep apnea – and that leads me to ask, “Am I the only one feeling this way? Do other people feel the same? Do they have the same challenges?” added.

Magda, a longtime activist who campaigned to change same-sex marriage laws in 2017, was previously the face of weight-loss company Jenny Craig.

She parted ways with Jenny Craig for the second time in 2014 and later regained the 40kg she lost in the years that followed.
