MAFS star Timothy bravely opens up about his traumatic family past during emotional chat with fellow groom Tristan: ‘All the scars on my heart are from people that I loved’
Married At First Sight star Timothy Smith courageously opened up about his traumatic family history with fellow groom Tristan Black in Wednesday night’s episode.
The business owner, 51, has struggled to be vulnerable with his wife Lucinda Light during the experiment, but has gradually opened up as the days have passed.
He describes himself as a ‘slow burn’ and has been open about finding it difficult to discuss his emotions due to the loss of loved ones in the past.
But on Wednesday Tim bravely spoke to Tristan, 30, about his traumatic family history and admitted in a very honest conversation that he has an ‘open wound’ as a result.
During their last dinner, the pair had a one-on-one conversation where Tristan affectionately referred to Tim as his “dad” while talking about their close bond.

Tristan – who is married to Cassandra Allen – then asked Tim how he and Lucinda were doing, prompting his friend to bravely open up about some of his struggles.
Tim said: ‘I have nothing to worry about, the problem is she can dig up things about me that make me doubt me.’
When Tristan asked him if that was good or bad, Tim replied that it was “bad” because “I have emotions that I put in a box and hide them.”
He continued, “This whole thing is asking who you are. Lucinda says I’m not open because I don’t trust anyone. All the scars on my heart are from people I loved.”
Tim then opened up about his devastating family losses and his ‘tough’ final moments with his father, which came just months before the reality TV show’s filming.

He told Tristan, “Mom died, brother (took his own life) that year, dad died three months ago. But he left me a parting gift: – a message – “I don’t like you”.’
‘No matter how many times you think in your mind that you are okay with it, you are not. It is difficult. It’s not easy for me to be an open person,” Tim added on camera.
“Unfortunately I have a bit of an open wound, so being vulnerable is hard, but I’m trying.”
In support of Tim, Tristan kindly told him, “I’m really sorry. But I’m proud of you, I’ve seen how far you’ve come and it’s amazing.’
“I wouldn’t invest so much time in you, father, if I didn’t care about you. I’m proud of you and Lucinda is proud of you,” he added in a heartwarming moment.
After Tim shared that he has an “open wound” from the losses in his family, Tristan sweetly told his friend he was “proud” of him as he offered support in a heartwarming moment.

An emotional Tristan told the camera: ‘It broke my heart a bit, he’s had to learn to stand on his feet for most of his whole life.
“But anyone who’s been dealt that hand and can still put a beautiful smile on their face like he does, that guy carries baggage, but he climbs that mountain and he climbs it more than most people.”
“I understand why Lucinda is so patient… I think Lucinda has done wonders for Timothy,” he added.
