MAFS star announces surprising career move after quitting his job as real estate agent
Fans of Married At First Sight may remember Steve Burley, the charming English boy who was paired with Mishel Karen.
Now he’s making headlines with an unexpected career move: he’s made a big leap and returned to the hairdressing business, opening a new salon called Balaclava Barbers.
In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, 55-year-old Steve revealed the decision followed the sale of his former company, which he described as somewhat reluctant.
“I felt compelled to sell my last business, but what happened in the past is over… I’m only interested in what happens in the future, and that is taking care of the community of Melbourne’s St. Kilda” , he explained.
Indeed, Steve embraces his new venture with the same passion and dedication with which he once excelled in the hairdressing field.

Now he’s making headlines with an unexpected career move: he’s made a big leap and returned to the hairdressing business, opening a new salon called Balaclava Barbers.
‘Mate? It is my passion. It’s my passion to take care of all the people who come into my shop,” he said.
He envisions a community store, a place where people can not only get a great haircut but also feel comfortable, valued and leave with a big smile.
Balaclava Barbers is a community-based barbershop where you matter. So every customer that walks into the store matters. They’re not just any customer… I want my customers, every customer that comes in, to feel like they matter when they come in and give me their business,” he emphasized.

Interestingly, his loyal customers seem to share his enthusiasm.
Steve said that a large number of customers from his previous business have visited his new barbershop, which is only 50 meters away from his old one.
The response was overwhelming with many expressing their joy to see him back in action.
Steve also noticed the unique relationship people have with their barber, attributing this to the atmosphere built in the shop.
‘Ultimately it’s about the atmosphere. Atmosphere you build in the store that makes people feel comfortable and easy to talk about whether they’re having problems outside or at work or at home or whatever.’
Steve is not alone in this new venture. He works with Adam White, a good friend for over two decades and his best man on MAFS

Steve values Adam greatly and implicitly trusts him. “He understands the value of building a community-based shop,” Steve added.
Together they plan to redefine the hairdressing experience, putting their customers and community at the center.
Steve, who starred in season seven of the series, was linked to OnlyFans star, Mishel Karen, but the pair failed to take off romantically.
Despite largely staying out of the limelight, he did reveal last year that he has moved into Melbourne property sales.
“I left the barbershop after wanting a new direction and joined a property company in Brighton, Victoria,” he previously told Daily Mail Australia.
Steve explained that after years of running his own hair salon in Melbourne’s CBD as he went in and out of lockdown, he felt now was the right time to see what else was out there.
