Married At First Sight’s Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli are arguably one of the dating show’s biggest success stories.
They first met in 2018 and said ‘I do’ on the TV show before knowing each other’s age.
‘She is beautiful. She looked absolutely amazing. She has a huge smile and that just drew me in. I think I’ve struck gold,” Michael, a then 27-year-old elementary school teacher, said when his bride came to him.
Martha, who was 30 when she showed up on the experiment, relented TV WEEK this week: “My first impressions of Michael were, ‘Okay, I’m going to get arrested for making out with a toddler.’ I was afraid to ask him how old he was, I didn’t want to know.’
“He looked like he just came back from school, fresh out of high school,” she added.

Martha, who was 30 when she appeared in the experiment, admitted to TV WEEK: “My first impressions of Michael were, ‘Okay, I’m getting arrested for kissing a toddler.’ I was afraid to ask him how old he was, I didn’t want to know’
“He was clean-shaven and all shiny, like a baby. I thought he was going to say he was 22. I was terrified.
“He wasn’t that young, he just sleeps a lot, does yoga and drinks his green smoothies.”
Michael may not have been her type physically when they met, but the attraction grew as the series progressed.
“He looked like he just came back from school, fresh out of high school,” she continued. ‘He wasn’t that young, he just sleeps a lot and drinks his green smoothies’
Two years after the season aired, Martha and Michael also attended the 2021 MAFS Grand Reunion special and revealed more insights into their relationship.
“She brings out something in me and I can calm her down. I’m an introvert, I don’t say much,” Michael said.
“Two years ago, I probably didn’t have the confidence — Martha has been able to get that out of me and feel comfortable speaking my truth, and I feel like that’s a huge personal growth for me.”
Meanwhile, Martha described their MAFS experience as “truly incredible.”
“Of course we have to find each other, but given the growth over the past two years, it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t taken the plunge and taken the risk. Boy, it paid off and I’m so grateful,” Martha told experts Mel Schilling and John Aiken.
The couple got engaged and have since welcomed their first child together, Lucius, in February.
