MAFS’ Jono McCullough worries fans as he looks upset and admits ‘horrible’ trolling over his romance with Ellie Dix has ‘taken a toll’ on him

Jono McCullough left fans worried as he discussed the impact ‘terrible’ trolling has had on him since his appearance on Married At First Sight.

Jono, 39, was embroiled in an on-screen controversy when it was revealed he had texted Ellie Dix, who had already left the show, without telling his bride Lauren Dunn.

Jono was adamant that the texts were completely innocent, but the outburst ultimately led to the end of his rocky relationship with PR expert Lauren, 32.

At the MAFS reunion, Jono then debuted his new relationship with nurse Ellie, 32, but the couple insisted their bond only became romantic after filming ended.

The couple have since criticized the show for portraying their relationship in a negative light, and Jono has now opened up about the brutal trolling he has faced.

He worried fans when a video circulated on Instagram of him looking angry while discussing the ‘terrible’ trolls he and Ellie have received about their relationship.

The business owner admitted it was ‘hard’ to ‘get up every morning’ as he told how he and Ellie both received mean comments from cruel trolls.

He candidly shared, “This goes out to all the haters, all the people who made negative comments – I get it, I understand. People ask me, “do you hate the trolls” and I say “no” because if I saw what they saw, I would probably feel the same way.

“I probably wouldn’t go as far as some people, there’s been some pretty terrible things, but you know what, I get it.

“No matter how strong you are, it takes its toll, it’s hard to get up every morning and face all the negativity, but I get it, I understand that.

“To all the people who sent love and support, it’s a surprise to us, but man, we’re so grateful.

“Like I said, if I saw what you saw and knew nothing else, I wouldn’t send such nasty things as I saw, but I understand.”

In the comments section, a slew of fans flocked to support the new couple while criticizing the cruel trolls for bombarding him with hate messages.

They wrote: ‘I love you Jono and Ellie! Unequal the haters;” ‘People let it go – enough enough;’

‘People should mind their own business. Simple… They’re all lying when they say they’ve never made a mistake in their time. It’s a stunning reality TV show. Move on people! Put Jono on;’

‘I wish you and Ellie all the happiness;’ ‘Don’t get caught up in the bulls**t!!! There are bigger things in life, mate;”

‘It doesn’t matter what people think. You and Ellie found love and that’s all that matters. People should understand how they edit reality TV shows by now. Shrug your shoulders and just enjoy each other.’

It comes after Jono recently criticized MAFS producers for his adaptation of the reality TV show in a bombshell interview with Ny Breaking Australia.

Jono claimed that the production team took Lauren’s character assessment of him as a “robot” and edited footage to make him appear that way.

‘On Lauren’s part there was no concern for each other. She immediately stood behind my back and said, “I’m a boring robot,” he explained.

“It’s like living with a serial killer, and I had no idea she said this, but it was a good storyline and it seems like they (producers) decided to run with it.”

“They just found footage of me staring blankly when I should have been talking, and yeah, it was pretty, pretty hard to watch,” he added.

However, Jono also expressed some sympathy for Lauren, especially in light of the backlash she faced.

“She was upset at first because the table turned on her, and it was led by Jayden,” he mused. “And when I watched it again last night, I actually felt sorry for Lauren.”

Meanwhile, Ellie – who left the show after ending her relationship with Ben Walters – also described the emotional toll her ‘villain’ role took on her at the reunion.

‘It was really tough. I feel so exhausted just watching Monday’s episode,” Ellie told Ny Breaking Australia.

The couple said they felt producers deliberately decided to portray their relationship in a negative light during the reunion because they criticized the way they were portrayed.

“We were hoping that they would show it as something beautiful that came out of this experiment, and they just chose to make us look pretty bad, like laughing at Sara, Tim and Lauren, and this is not how it happened ,” Jono said.

“I think they showed every bit of PDA we had for six hours, and some of it multiple times in one minute,” he claimed.

“I could understand why people would say we’re mean people after seeing that, but it didn’t happen that way,” Ellie added.

“I’ve actually never been called a ‘mean girl’ in my life.” And everyone I meet would say, “I can’t believe this is Ellie.” It’s just not me.’
