On Sunday, the 52-year-old Channel Nine presenter took to Instagram to express his deep sorrow and pay tribute to his mother with a touching post

“The last text Mom sent me was to give me some feedback on some of my advice on MAFS!” he told earlier 9Honey.

‘She’s a big fan – and loves to criticize how we organize a wedding ceremony!’

He described her as a survivor who was strong-willed and fiercely independent.

“My mother raised all the boys with such grace and strength,” John said.

“Especially now that I’m a father of two and trying to do my best, I admire her more than ever.”

Of the many lessons Wendy taught her children, John cherished one piece of advice the most.

She told him to always rely on himself when faced with adversity and to look for solutions instead of complaining about problems.

This gave him a sense of independence, responsibility and self-reliance.
