Madonna realizes ‘how lucky I am to be alive’… as she reflects on being in ICU and battling a bacterial infection

Madonna says she “realized how lucky I am to be alive” in an Instagram post she shared on Sunday, after recovering from a bacterial infection that sent her to ICU.

The pop star applauded her children for standing up for her in a time of need after a health concern forced her to cancel her world tour.

“Love from family and friends is the best medicine. A month out of the hospital and I can think,” she began the note.

The 64-year-old pop music icon – who fell ill in June – shared a trio of photos with her 19 million followers, along with a heartfelt caption, as she reflected on the past month since her hospitalization.

A snapshot showed her with her firstborn child, Lourdes Leon, 26, flashing a peace sign as she posed with her beloved mother.

Another image showed the subversive music artist hugging her 17-year-old son David.

The caption continued, “As a mom, you can get really caught up in your kids’ needs and give it seemingly endless……….. But when the chips ran out, my kids really showed up for me.”

Madonna was given an injection of the drug Narcan — often used to reverse suspected drug overdoses — to combat acute septic shock before being rushed to hospital, Radar Online reported.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused when the body releases chemicals to fight an infection.

These chemicals damage the body’s own tissues and organs and can lead to shock, organ failure, and death.

The insider said the singer has “an incredible support system around her and appreciates all the love she’s received” since she was taken to a hospital on June 24.

She gushed, “I saw a side of them I had never seen before. It made all the difference. So was the love and support of my friends.’

Included in the post was a photo of the Like A Virgin hitmaker holding a framed photo.

She explained, “If you zoom in on this photo I’m holding, you’ll see a Polaroid made by Andy Warhol of Keith Haring wearing a jacket with Michael Jackson’s face painted on it.” A perfect triangle of brilliance.”

The Michigan-born star added, “Artist who touched so many lives, including mine. I sobbed when I opened this gift because I realized how lucky I am to be alive.

“And how fortunate I was to have known these people and so many others who are also gone.”

Madonna thanked her longtime manager Guy Oseary for the gift before closing the caption, “And thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me stay to finish my job!”

She was rushed to ICU and intubated after being found slumped on the floor of her New York City apartment on June 24.

Doctors later told DailyMail.com that the entertainer looked decrepit, thin and exhausted in the days before she nearly died of a bacterial infection.

On July 10, she took to social media to break her silence about the ordeal.

Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love. I am on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life,” she said.

The mother of six added in the statement: “My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children.”

In addition to Lourdes and David, the music sensation is mum to Rocco, 22, Mercy, 17, and Stella and Estere, 10.

The lifelong performer said her “second thought was that I didn’t want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.”
