The midfielder grabbed Gibbs-White by the neck
Suspended for three games
WHAT HAPPENED? The City midfielder, who was hailed as Europe’s best midfielder by Pep Guardiola last week, lost his head in a furious confrontation with his counterpart when he pushed him and then grabbed him by the neck, causing Gibbs-White to fall over. The decision to sack Rodri was subject to a VAR review but was upheld.
THE BIG PICTURE: Rodri will be suspended for the next three matches for Premier League leaders City: Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match at Newcastle, next Saturday’s away trip to Wolves, and, most importantly, the showdown at Arsenal on October 8.

WHAT’S NEXT: City will decide next week whether or not to appeal the red card and get a reduction in Rodri’s suspension, although it seems unlikely they will succeed. Their next Premier League match is against Wolves on September 30.
