Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner ‘is struggling with the pressure of being accused of one of the world’s most infamous crimes’
The main suspect in the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann is finding it difficult to be charged with the youngster's kidnapping, the report has revealed.
Christian Brueckner, a 46-year-old convicted pedophile and rapist, has told friends he is “struggling with the pressure” of being accused of “one of the world's most notorious crimes”, which remains unsolved to this day.
It has also been reported that he believes it is 'unfair' that investigators have not yet shared any evidence against him with his legal team.
“Christian B has regularly told his friends he speaks to from prison how difficult it is to be the Madeleine suspect,” the source said. The sun.
“It's clear he's struggling with the pressure of being so firmly in the world spotlight – even while behind bars,” the source said.

Speaking to The Sun, the source said Brueckner 'hates being suspected of one of the world's most famous crimes. And his lawyers hate that he's constantly in the news.”
“He is behind bars for crimes for which he has already been convicted. But I think he forgets that there is a family that lost their little girl,” they said.
The British publication also reported that his lawyers become angry when someone asks their client how he is doing, snapping, “How is he supposed to be doing?”
According to the report, Brueckner – who is known only as Christian B. in Germany – privately maintains his innocence to his lawyers.
Conversations between the convict and his lawyer Friedrich Fülscher are protected under German law, as they are in Britain.
But it is clear that Fülscher would not defend his client in court if Brueckner had given him an ironclad confession about his alleged crimes.
At the end of last month it was confirmed that the 46-year-old will finally appear in court on February 16 next year.
A German prosecutor has confirmed that the trial against the German pedophile will start on Friday morning.
It is expected to last 'up to three months' and will be chaired by a 'panel of four to five judges', it can be revealed.
Brueckner's lawyers are said to have been given hope by recent claims that German investigators failed to find physical evidence linking him to McCann during an operation in Portugal earlier this year, during which they searched an area near a lake.
Last month it was reported that he may have taken photos of the missing toddler and buried him in an underground shelter near a reservoir in the Algarve.
The convicted pedophile is said to have taken 'trophies' from his victims in the past.
This is according to an unnamed source The sun: '[Authorities investigating] Now Christian B knows that he buried data carriers such as hard drives and USB sticks in one of the places he stayed, so that was their real hope at the lake.'
'They really thought they might find pictures there, but they haven't given up hope. They think he made duplicates because he liked to keep them as trophies.”

The operation, which began on May 23, stemmed from a European investigation order issued by German authorities to Portugal, which focused on the Arade Dam.
But the case faces several devastating obstacles as it slowly progresses through the German courts.
Prosecutors investigating Brueckner announced at the end of November that they could have encountered a major stumbling block now that the main witness is suspected of possible perjury.
German investigators built their case around Helge Busching, whose evidence helped jail Bruckner for rape in 2019 – but questions have since been raised around his testimony in the trial.
Busching claimed that he and another man named Manfred Seyferth found a video camera in Brueckner's home that showed him raping and sexually assaulting two women, and that it was used to imprison him for seven years.
Busching also told investigators the year after Madeleine disappeared that he had a conversation with Brueckner in which he said it was “strange that she didn't scream” when they talked about her disappearance.
Now, however, Busching is being investigated for false testimony because Brueckner's attorney poked holes in Busching's accounts via the video camera, which was never found.
According to Fulscher, the testimony that the camera was found and hidden in a house is different from an earlier statement stating that they hid the camera in a camper – which he says makes him an unreliable witness.
Christian Brückner was officially named as a suspect in April 2022 after his yellow and white VW T3 Westfalia camper was reportedly spotted near the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal, where Maddie disappeared.

In April 2019, a controversial new Netflix documentary was released that re-examined Maddie's kidnapping, leading to a barrage of online abuse against Kate and Gerry by heartless trolls.
Brueckner has denied he was in the area at the time and distanced himself from the allegations against him.
But German prosecutors say phone logs show he received a call near the Ocean Club on May 3, 2007.
Brueckner claims he was miles away with a young woman.
He remains the only major suspect in the case since 2007.
