Macy Gray’s dramatic moments as singer is branded a ‘diva’ following THAT Masked Singer meltdown

Macy Gray shocked fans after she furiously stormed off stage at Masked Singer UK on Saturday night.

It took ITV production staff an hour to convince Macy to return to the stage after her jaw-dropping tie when she was told to remove her mask.

But it is not the first time that the 57-year-old singer has put in a chaotic performance in her career, which has amazed fans.

She had a similar breakdown in 2021 when she appeared on the Australian version of the show and sulked when she was voted off.

It comes as no surprise to some who have witnessed Macy’s bizarre behavior, with Lord Snowdon even labeling the singer the “rudest person” after she walked out during her Vogue photo shoot.

She also sparked concern when she claimed she was a ‘vampire’ during a customary Lorraine appearance.

Walked off stage at Masked Singer UK

Macy Gray ‘stormed’ off The Masked Singer on Saturday evening after becoming the latest celebrity to be voted off.

Presenter Joel Dommett said it was “the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life” as the American singer, dressed as a giant Toad, left the stage after the results.

Speaking to Paddy McGuinness on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday, Joel joked that Macy couldn’t be disappointed about leaving the show early ‘because you get the same money and don’t have to do anything else’.

He said: ‘This is why The Masked Singer is so good, it doesn’t matter if you’re a good singer or not, the show doesn’t fit into either camp.

“The thing about Macy is she’s a legend, she has a recognizable voice and she might as well go because we all know it’s her, and they’ll put the other person through because we still don’t know who they are.

“If you go home early, it’s a win-win situation because you get the same money and you don’t have to do anything else.”

He continued, “You can’t be annoyed when you’re dressed as a toad. In my professional career – I love Macy, she’s incredible, great voice – but I’ve never witnessed anything funnier than a 6-foot toad storming off. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

“And my shorts, I suggested we shorten them at every commercial break, as a joke, and we did, and when she stormed off I was in hot pants.”

Macy looked unimpressed and completely shocked ITV viewers as she left the stage after being announced as the latest celebrity to leave The Masked Singer UK.

The American singer had to remove her costume head to reveal her identity after she was voted out following a performance against Bear, Wolf, Pufferfish and Bush.

Joel also shared a clip to his Instagram grid of him hosting the show as Macy walked away, simply writing, “lol.”

Meanwhile, judge Maya Jama shared a TikTok made by ITVX of Macy’s walk-off, which read: ‘Me in every discomfort:’

Threw a noose on Masked Singer Australia

Three years before her meltdown on Masked Singer UK, Macy quit the Australian version of the show in 2021.

When she took part in the Australian version of the programme, judge Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes claimed Macy had ‘refused to leave’ after being voted off.

He told 2Day FM’s Morning Crew: ‘Macy Gray had such a passion for The Masked Singer that when she was told she had to leave the show, which you saw last night, she refused to leave the show.

‘She said ‘No, I’m going to continue on the show’, and there had to be a discussion that went on for a long time about ‘No, you have to leave’.

‘She said, ‘No, I’m not leaving’.’

Dave said Macy refused to take her head off because she was disappointed about leaving the competition.

Stormed out of the Vogue photo shoot

British photographer Lord Snowdon, who died in 2017, branded the hitmaker ‘odious’ after a memorable meeting with her.

Macy and Snowdon had a falling out after she left her photo shoot with Vogue, which he was working on.

After she arrived late and ran out without shoes, Snowdon described Macy as the most difficult person he had worked with.

He told it British Vogue in 2001: ‘In my 55 years in this industry, I have never met such a rude woman.”

Appeared naked on stage during her concert

Macy bared all in 2004, wearing nothing but a pair of Jimmy Choo heels, to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The singer appeared naked on stage halfway through the concert during Elephant And Castle’s former Coronet concert, hiding behind a gold chair.

A Macy’s spokesperson said at the time: ‘Never before has a major artist gone so far in support of a good cause.

“The idea came about after Macy Gray was asked to participate in an auction of photos of celebrities wearing Jimmy Choo shoes.

‘She wanted to do something special for it, so she decided her photo would be naked on stage. It’s a very sexy statement.’

“I’m a vampire, I want to bite people,” Macy says

Macy sparked concern from viewers who noticed her “erratic” behavior during an appearance on Lorraine in 2019.

During the interview, the I Try singer claimed she was a ‘vampire’ and wants to bite people, before insisting she wouldn’t do that because it’s illegal.

After watching the program, fans of the show took to Twitter to express their concerns about her “car crash” performance, which left them worried for her.

During the chat, Macy said, “I’m a vampire. I needed a blood transfusion… I just want to bite people! But that’s illegal.

“Maybe you shouldn’t do that,” Lorraine suggested.

Rushed to hospital with Ozempic emergency

In August 2024, The Surreal Life viewers watched as Macy was taken to the hospital in a wheelchair after her Ozempic injection caused shortness of breath and left her unable to walk.

After previously revealing that the weight-loss drug had caused a painful bout of constipation, she faced further complications that forced the production to race her to the emergency room.

Macy initially opened up about her symptoms, explaining that she was short of breath and found it difficult to move.

Macy revealed her Ozempic habit in the second episode during a conversation with costars Kim Zolciak and Johnny Weir.

“Oh boy, my stomach hurts. I’m just constipated. I took Ozempic. “I can’t go to the toilet and I’ve been up all night,” she said.

Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim, 46, then joked, “Ozempic does that.”

“Last night it hurt,” Macy shared, prompting Kim to warn, “You gotta be careful, you know.”

Macy added, “I’m going on tour after this, so I was trying to lose weight really quickly.”

In her confessional, she said, “Hush, I’m a little vain. I’ve gained a lot of weight over the past few years, and this is exactly when everyone starts talking about this Ozempic.

“So I thought, OK, I’m not taking this well, let me see if I can get one of these Ozempics.

“I actually tried to take it off [the weight] for the show because I didn’t want to be super fat on TV, but here we are.”
