A community has rallied behind a young woman described as a “viable” larrikin after a horror crash left her fighting for her life.
Two weeks ago, 22-year-old Macy Edwards was returning to her home in Wynyard, Tasmania’s northwest, when she was involved in a car accident that left her with multiple life-threatening injuries.
Mrs Edwards was on her way from training as a tour guide in Launceston when the collision occurred.
She now has a significant list of internal injuries, including brain and heart trauma, broken ribs, pelvis, collarbone and neck and tailbone fractures – and some injuries will need to be treated in Melbourne once she is stable.

Ms Edwards was returning to her home in Wynyard, Tasmania’s north west, when she was involved in the car accident that left her with multiple life-threatening injuries.
a GoFundMe page was set up to financially support Ms. Edwards and her family with the costs of her ongoing treatment, which has raised more than $45,000.
Page organizers Allie House and Fiona Pearce wrote: ‘With a boundless sense of adventure and the world at her fingertips, our wonderful Wynyard girl has been in an induced coma in Hobart for over a week since her accident.’
‘She is a larrikin who is full of life, has a love for people and is designed and destined to help others. For those of you who know her parents, Celisa and Steve (Eddie), they are traits she inherited from them,” they said.
“This GoFundMe gives us the opportunity to give them precious time to support Macy without the heavy burden of worrying about their lack of income and future treatment and care needs that are likely to follow.”
With support pouring in from far and wide, her family thanked everyone for their well wishes.

“We are so overwhelmed by the kindness of people that brings us to tears. We weren’t expecting anything from anyone and just had to be there for Macy, but this is truly so heartwarming and a relief in a very difficult time,” they wrote.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Ms Edwards is currently being treated at the Royal Hobart Hospital and the family still don’t know the full extent of her injuries and what continued support the 22-year-old will need to move forward.
