  • EXCLUSIVE: Iconic 1977 sports car owned by actor Mackenzie Crook is for sale
  • Star who owns a bright yellow vehicle belonging to the Detectorists wants £3,500 for it

The iconic yellow sports car from the Detectorists TV series owned by star actor Mackenzie Crook is on sale for just £3,500.

The Triumph TR7 – which was driven by Toby Jones in the BBC comedy – has even been autographed by all the actors of the BAFTA award-winning show.

The 1977 sports car appeared in all three series of the show, which follow Andy, played by Pirates of the Caribbean star Mackenzie Crook, 51, and Lance, played by Harry Potter actor Toby Jones, 56.

The sports car was bought by Crook in case the show got a second series – because it was cheaper than having to hire one.

That he is selling the car seems to be confirmation that the series will not return.

In 2014 he wrote for the Daily Mail: ‘I wrote in the script that Lance drives a yellow Triumph TR7. I assumed I would have to compromise on this point.

“But Sam Harley, our designer, found a yellow 1977 TR7 in pristine condition. . . and it was cheaper to buy it than rent it for the duration of the shoot.

“This left the problem of what would happen to it after we were done.

‘I bought it. I told my wife to protect it in case we were commissioned for a second series.

So now I have a TR7 in a color that can only be described as “yellow.”

“If we get another series, I could write Andy piloting a helicopter, kind of like Blue Thunder.”

He later added that the show was: “A love song for the British countryside, for people and their passions and pursuits.”

“There’s some swearing, like in real life, but no celebrities or chases, like in real life. Lots of birdsong. A frog. A yellow TR7.’
