Machine Gun Kelly reveals his dad was on trial for murder at age 9 for his own father’s death

Machine Gun Kelly spoke candidly about his late father’s difficult childhood, which he said was a major factor in their strained relationship.

The 34-year-old rapper revealed that his father, who passed away in July 2019, watched his own father die from an accidental gunshot wound during his recent performance in the Dumb Blonde podcast.

When the superstar was nine years old, his father was tried along with his mother for the deaths of his father and her husband.

“The story I was always told was that their father dropped the gun and his head blew off,” the killer, whose real name is Colson Baker, explained.

“It all happened in the room with my father when he was 9 years old. So he and my grandmother were tried for the murder,” he added. “They were both acquitted.”

It was only as the musician grew older that he began to understand how these traumatic events had affected his father and how their relationship had been strained.

“I remember when I was a kid I used to get really angry with him. If I scared him or if he heard a loud bang or a loud noise, he would freak out, freak out,” he recalls.

‘And then I thought, “You’re supposed to be a man, man, why are you acting like this?” And because of that, I started hating him.

“But then you sit there and think about a boy who was tried at the age of nine for the murder of his father.”

He added: ‘The journey my father took as a child certainly has an impact on mine.’

MGK admitted that he portrays himself as someone who can handle the pressures of fame, criticism and negativity well.

“Because I overcame all those traumas by becoming who I always wanted my father to be: being tough, shaking it all off, and fighting with anyone who comes your way.”

MGK admitted that his past choices were not sustainable and that he is now working on self-improvement. He realizes that he no longer has the energy for his old image.

“The story I was always told was that their dad dropped the gun and his head basically blew off,” the God Save Me artist told Bunnie in the episode released Aug. 5, adding, “It all happened in the room with my dad when he was 9 years old. So he and my grandmother were tried for the murder.”

The Emo Girl singer has previously spoken about his family’s difficult history, including in a conversation with his daughter Casie Baker, now 15, in his 2022 documentary Life in Pink.

“It’s crazy because they put my father on trial when he was 9 years old,” he says in the documentary, reading a newspaper article about the events of 1968. “Because he never took the chance to heal, all those things, it came to me when I was growing up.”

The conversation changed Casie’s perspective on her father significantly. She said, “I can see why my dad was so depressed because it was passed down through the generations.”

The hitmaker – who is in a relationship with Megan Fox – took to Instagram in 2022 to introduce his estranged mother – whose name has not been made public – a year after he revealed that they had reconnected thanks to his fans.

He shared a snap from the platform, which showed them sitting with their legs crossed and leaning against each other as they flashed wide smiles for the camera.

He wrote in the caption: ‘Meet… my mother.’
