A private school in Sydney paid tribute to a student who was tragically killed in a bus accident while waiting for his mother to pick him up.

Cameron Millen, 14, was waiting outside Macarthur Anglican School in the southwestern suburb of Cobbitty, last Wednesday when a bus allegedly ran onto the pavement and struck him.

Witnesses, including Cameron’s friends and teachers, tried to help him at the scene before paramedics arrived.

He was rushed to Campbelltown Hospital, but died a short time later.

Macarthur Principal Dr. David Nockles shared a moving tribute to Cameron on Tuesday.

“There is a deep sense of grief in the school community as we mourn the death of Cameron Millen,” he said.

The director, Dr David Nockles, described Cameron (above) as a sports lover with a “cheeky smile”.

‘Cameron had an infectious smile that could light up a room. Those who taught Cameron, or were involved in activities outside of the classroom, have spoken of her warm and friendly nature.

‘He possessed a good dose of gritty determination, which many staff and students found endearing.

“He could produce a cheeky, wry smile when called upon, and often managed to reassure teachers that he was focused and on task in class.”

Dr. Nockles added that Cameron loved sports and expressed his condolences to his bereaved family and loved ones.

‘Cameron was a talented basketball player and a skilled footballer; he certainly didn’t like people referring to him as “football”.

‘When the new basketball courts opened recently, Cameron quickly made this his second home.

‘Cameron weaving his magic at every recess and lunch has been a focus for many students as they reflect and tell stories of this fine young man of character doing what he loved most.

“Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to Cameron’s mother Michelle, father Geoffrey and older brother Jared, as well as their wider family and friends.”

Cameron’s older brother, a Year 11 student at Macarthur, also shared a message for the 14-year-old.

Veteran bus driver and mother of three, Penina Lopesi (above), has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and negligent driving causing death.

‘Rest in peace little brother. You were the best little brother I could have asked for,” he said.

‘Even though I found you annoying at times, you were always there for me and I can’t believe you’re gone. I’ll do my best to make you proud, little man. I love you.’

Veteran bus driver and mother of three Penina Lopesi, 54, was arrested at Liverpool Hospital at 8:30 p.m. last Thursday.

She was charged with dangerous driving causing death and negligent driving causing death.

Lopesi has been granted strict bond and will face court again next month.
