M5 traffic Sydney: Truck fire causes significant delays from Riverwood to Prestons

A truck fire in Revesby, located in Sydney’s south-west, has caused significant disruption to the M5 motorway.

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, but the incident has led to the closure of two of the three westbound lanes on the M5, towards Beaconsfield Street.

While all lanes in the city are open, traffic continues to move slowly as it passes the accident scene.

The backup is extensive, with traffic congestion westbound extending to Riverwood, and delays in the city reaching Prestons.

Commuters are experiencing significant delays and are advised to allow sufficient additional travel time for their journey.

Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution as smoke from the incident could affect visibility in the area.

While the fire is under control, the cleanup process continues, requiring lane closures.

The cause of the incident is also being investigated.
