  • The Premier League has confirmed a new date for Bournemouth-Luton
  • The original match was abandoned following Tom Lockyer’s cardiac arrest
  • It will be repeated in its entirety on Wednesday, March 13 at the Vitality Stadium

Luton’s abandoned match with Bournemouth has been moved to Wednesday, March 13, the Premier League has confirmed.

The original match in December was postponed after Hatters captain Tom Lockyer went into cardiac arrest in the 59th minute.

Lockyer fell to the ground after an hour and was treated on the pitch for around 25 minutes as play was stopped.

The decision was then made by referee Simon Hooper to call off the match, with the Premier League later confirming that the match would be replayed in its entirety.

Bournemouth will now host Luton at the Vitality Stadium next month, with a kick-off time of 7.30pm.

Lockyer made an emotional return to the club’s training ground in January and reunited with his teammates.

“It was great to see him back,” manager Rob Edwards said on the club website. ‘We had a very good morning seeing him everywhere.

‘We handed out Premier League debut balls with (former managers) John Still and Mick Harford.

‘It was a nice presentation; it was a special moment and great to see.

‘I managed to keep it together, but it was emotional. It was a very difficult time for his family first and foremost, but for us it was wonderful to see him.

‘He is an incredibly brave man and someone who is incredibly in control of everything. I wouldn’t be like him.

‘He is such an impressive and focused person. There is a rehabilitation process but he is taking it easy, he has a baby on the way and that is his main focus.”

Edwards immediately ran onto the pitch after Lockyer collapsed as both players appeared visibly upset, while paramedics and medical staff from both sides rushed to tend to him on the pitch.

The 29-year-old was ‘responsive’ as he was carried away on a stretcher to applause from across the ground.
