After the win, Morris said: “Yes, it's massive, I'm speaking to Locks every day at the moment.

'We miss him very much as a team every day. My little man. I literally spoke to him yesterday about how important this period and momentum could be for us.

'He's behind us all day. He is here in spirit.”

Morris was also pictured alongside teammate Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu wearing a shirt with the captain's name on the back, following their win over Sheffield United.

Ahead of the match, Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has revealed that Lockyer is 'doing well' and is 'in really good spirits', just over a week after suffering cardiac arrest on the pitch.

Edwards said this about Lockyer before the game: “He's good, thanks for asking. We have been in contact every day since it happened.

'He's in really good spirits, he's incredibly brave and he has a lot of support around him. He watched the game the other day and cheered us on from home, so yeah, he's doing well.

'It was nice to be able to beat Newcastle after the week we had as it was incredibly emotional for everyone involved.

'I want the players to play with emotion, I like it when the players do that, as long as it doesn't go over the edge.

'Players, clubs, fans and especially these two teams today, they want to see them at the forefront. I want my players to play with passion. We want to keep that.

“I talked about it after Newcastle, everything Tom embodies – being brave and aggressive – that's us and Luton Town anyway, so it's about harnessing that and trying to keep that going without taking it over the edge.”

Before the match against Newcastle, Lockyer's shirt, shorts and shin pads were placed in their usual place in the Luton dressing room, while his teammates ran out wearing shirts with the message '4 Locks' on them, a reference to his squad number but also their motivation.

His image was on the cover of the program, his name was sung everywhere and there was also applause for the defender in the fourth minute.

As well as a 'Get Well Soon Tom' banner from the visiting Newcastle fans, a banner for Lockyer was also placed in one of the home sections.
