Luke Shaw ‘unbothered by backlash from viral Molly-Mae Hague TikTok’ after Man United fans blasted the footballer for rapping ‘your mum’s on benefits’ in the ’embarrassing’ video

Luke Shaw has reportedly shrugged off criticism from fans after sparking a wave of backlash by joining the viral TikTok trend.

The 29-year-old footballer angered Manchester United supporters after appearing at a lavish New Year’s Eve party in the ’embarrassing’ video.

The clip saw Luke and his wife Anouska joins their friends, including influencer Molly-Mae Haag, to emulate Mugshot Freestyle (The Northern Boys remix).

But viewers were not amused when the England star uttered the line: ‘Your mum’s on benefits’ as he rakes in £150,000-a-week at Man United.

The club’s fans took to social media to blast the injured player as they highlighted the Red Devils’ current problems.

However, Luke’s friends claim he is not bothered by the backlash as he has ‘grown a thick skin’ due to his long sporting career.

Speak with The sunexplained a friend: ‘Luke Shaw is used to the reactions he gets every day and people joke with him about the fact that he gets paid more for being off the pitch than on the pitch because he’s always injured.

‘Although the TikTok video was filmed at a private gathering, it eventually went viral, but Luke had no problem with it.

“For him it was just a bit of light-hearted fun. He is so used to the abuse that it doesn’t bother him.’

The team is currently in thirteenth place in the Premier League, after a run of four defeats in a row and a draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

Luke has been limited to just 68 minutes of top-flight action this season, with the left-back picking up an injury in 2024.

In response to TikTok, fans responded to

‘Manchester United in the worst form of my life and Luke Shaw doing TikToks with Molly Mae’;

‘I’m scrolling on TikTok and I can’t believe who just told me that my mother is on benefits while my club is fighting relegation, because my head is warm.’;

‘There has to be a sense of professionalism. This player in particular has been unavailable for the equivalent of four years while earning £150,000pw. We are 14th.’

“Luke Shaw who does TikToks with Molly Mae would never play again if Fergie was still in charge. Embarrassing club?!”

The left-back is father to three children, Reign, Storie and Lumie, with his long-term partner Anouska, one of Molly-Mae’s best friends.

Luke signed for Manchester United in 2014 for a then world record transfer fee of £30 million.

But injuries limited him to just eight Man United appearances in 2024, while he made three appearances for England at the 2024 Euros.

Last month, Luke shared an emotional statement on social media after confirming he had suffered a ‘minor setback’.

He wrote: ‘Hi guys, it hurts a lot to have to write this as I really thought I had gotten through my recent struggles and was on a positive path for the future but unfortunately I have had a minor setback.

‘I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs, but this has definitely been my toughest period.

‘I am absolutely devastated and it is extremely difficult to face the reality at the moment.’

He continued: “I understand that there will be people frustrated, angry and disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one who feels that more than me right now.

‘But what I can promise is that I will do everything I can to bounce back quickly and help this club realize its ambitions this season.

‘Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really appreciate it.’
