Luke Littler finally won a Premier League night when he defeated Nathan Aspinall in the final in Belfast.

Despite consistently picking up points throughout the campaign, Littler had only reached one of the eight finals on Thursday evening but hit top form in Northern Ireland.

Littler started the final with a checkout of 136 and almost achieved a finish of 170 in the next leg, but missed the bullseye. Aspinall returned to the oche to coolly knock out 70, then won the next two legs to take the lead 3-1.

Back came Littler, with a 125 finish that made it 3-3.

Littler took control by winning the next two legs, but Aspinall hit back by breaking Littler’s throw to reduce the score to 5–4. But Littler held his own to claim a 6-4 win and move into second place in the table.

After his win, Littler explained that he had made small adjustments to his game and was happy that they had paid off.

“I’m happy to win, it’s my first,” he told Sky Sports. ‘As people may have noticed, I changed my throw to take that little bit of extra time and then release the next two (darts).

“I practiced more and it paid off.”

Littler started the evening by defeating world champion Luke Humphries in a thrilling encounter as he held his nerve to seal a 6-5 win.

The teen sensation had promised YouTuber JaackMaate this week that he would be wagging his fingers if he won, following a row he had with German rival Ricardo Pietreczko at the Belgian Darts Open earlier this month.

But he was overcome with emotion after beating Humphries and instead celebrated wildly before hugging his opponent.

That win set up a semi-final meeting with Michael van Gerwen, and Littler again made a fast start to take the lead.

Van Gerwen could not match Littler’s goalscoring prowess and the Warrington youngster roared as he smashed double 20 to open a 5-2 lead.

The Dutchman managed to get another leg on the board, but Littler did not look like giving up his lead and recorded a 6-3 victory.

Littler’s overnight victory takes him to 18 points and he has put himself in a strong position to qualify for the end-of-season play-offs.

Humphries is still in the lead with 22 points, while Van Gerwen (17) and Aspinall (16) complete the top four.
