Luke Littler throws a nine-darter on his PDC ProTour debut at Players Championship in Wigan… and JUST misses out on another perfect leg in his next match on his way to winning another title and £15,000 prize

  • Luke Littler first defeated Jim Williams and Luke Woodhouse in Players Championship
  • The 17-year-old hit a nine-darter to beat Michele Turetta in the last 32
  • Little came close to repeating the feat on his way to beating Cameron Menzies

Luke Littler continued his sensational form to hit another stunning nine-darter on his way to winning the title on his PDC ProTour debut at the Players Championship in Wigan.

The 17-year-old star, who shot to fame after reaching the World Championship final at the age of 16, had beaten Jim Williams and Luke Woodhouse in the first two rounds and set up a last-32 meeting with Michele Turetta.

Little took a 5-1 lead against the first ever Italian Tour Card holder after breaking his opponent in the third.

And he finished off Turetta in style by sealing the win with a nine-dart finish, completing a 141 checkout to round off a dominant 6-1 win.

It was Littler’s second nine-dart finish of the year, having also achieved the feat in the opening match of his first World Tour appearance against Nathan Aspinall at the Bahrain Darts Masters, a tournament he later won.

Littler was close to another nine-darter in the next round against Cameron Menzies

Littler – who earned £250,000 for reaching the world final, which he lost to Luke Humphries – came close to another perfect leg in the next round against Cameron Menzies.

He had a dart to record a second nine-darter, but missed with double 12.

Littler continued his dream start to his first Players Championship by beating the Scot, whose girlfriend is female darts star Fallon Sherrock, 6-2 with an average of 108.99 to book a place in the quarter-finals.

He defeated James Hurrell 6–3 in the quarter-finals before being taken to a decider by Alan Soutar, which he won to set up a meeting with Ryan Searle in the final.

Littler put in a great performance in the final as he defeated Searle 8-7 with a huge average of 110.

Two other players – Leighton Bennett and Mickey Mansell – also hit nine-darters in Wigan today.

Littler, the darts sensation who has taken the world by storm, recently told Mail Sport that he only trains 20 minutes a day.

“I wake up at 1 or 2 p.m. and do the same thing every day,” he said. ‘Maybe I should make it a routine to go to bed at a normal time – I never see the morning.

“I get up, I go on my Xbox, when I get tired of that I go to the practice board, and when I get tired of that I go back to my Xbox.”

And that practice? What does it look like in a nuanced, erratic game where Phil Taylor, the 16-time world champion, would spend more than 10 hours a day in his garage trying to stay on the wave? “Maybe twenty minutes or half an hour,” he says. “Just to keep my arm loose.”

Littler is regularly supported at events and on social media by friend Eloise Milburn, 21.

Meanwhile, Gerwyn Price, who withdrew from Players Championship 1 on Monday, slammed the ‘pathetic’ playing conditions at Wigan.

He wrote on Instagram: ‘Absolutely pathetic circumstances.

‘Travel all the way to Wigan to play in a professional match and we have to play in less than amateur conditions.

‘I’ve never given up on a match, well, I’ll be that way tomorrow too.

“I’m gutted because my game today was really good and I rely so much on these events.”
