Luke Littler has revealed how he accidentally snubbed David Beckham during an awkward exchange on social media after the England and Manchester United legend contacted the darts prodigy.
The 17-year-old’s superstar pedigree reached new heights at the start of the year when he triumphed over Michael van Gerwen to become the youngest ever PDC World Champion.
Littler increased his already astonishing career earnings by a further £500,000 after winning at Alexandra Palace, while his image outside the game also continued to grow.
Sporting royalty and top footballers that Littler grew up with are among those the darts champion will now come into contact with after a whirlwind twelve months.
Littler became a household name last year after previously starring in his magical run to the world final against Luke Humphries during his rookie year in the competition, and has been influential in raising the profile of the sport.
The self-confessed die-hard Man United supporter has already become a familiar face among the club’s first-team stars and has also drawn praise from the legends of the game.

Beckham appears to have been keeping an eye on Littler’s rise to sporting hero in Britain, but the darts star has revealed how he accidentally ignored the England and Premier League icon for the first time.
Littler’s social media presence has exploded since his first Championship appearance at just 16 years old, and now with over 1.6 million followers on Instagram he is attracting more interest than ever.
Beckham was among those who first requested to follow Littler during the chaos of his first World Cup run and the Warrington-born dart thrower claimed he had accidentally turned down one of the world’s biggest celebrities.
“It was during the world championships, but I didn’t even see it in my requests,” Littler said when talking about his social media blunder with Beckham.
‘I’m following him, but I haven’t seen it.
“My sister checked everything to see if anyone had been in contact during the worlds and she found it,” Littler said.

However, the hilarious interaction didn’t stop Beckham from getting in touch again as he was among those who immediately congratulated Littler after his title victory over Van Gerwen.
The teenage sensation dominated three-time champion Van Gerwen in a 7-3 win to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy and he later revealed what Beckham had wanted to say.
He said, “Wow, well done.” I said “Thanks”. It shows how well I have done for the sport,” Littler said.
‘Not only for myself, but also for the hundreds of other professionals out there. But to see people like David Beckham watching it feels crazy.”
