- Luke Humphries beats Michael van Gerwen and wins the German Darts Grand Prix
- World champion crushed the Dutch player with an 8-1 victory in Munich
- Humphries averaged 112.66 – the second highest in a European final
World champion Luke Humphries roared to victory in the German Darts Grand Prix, beating three-time winner Michael van Gerwen 8-1 in the final in Munich.
Humphries was unstoppable at the Zenith, where he won his first European Tour title two years ago. He recorded 6-2 wins over Ryan Joyce and Danny Noppert before adding the scalp of Gerwyn Price with a 7-3 success.
But he saved his best for Van Gerwen, whose hopes of adding to his winning streak in 2017, 2018 and 2019 were dashed as Humphries averaged 112.66 – the second highest ever in a European Tour final.
Humphries scored six 180s against the Dutchman and checked out twice with a bullseye for 170, achieving a sixth success at this level.
Van Gerwen had beaten Martin Schindler 7-2 in the semi-finals to clinch his place in the showpiece event, having previously beaten Jermaine Wattimena and Joe Cullen.

After his win, Humphries said: ‘It was a great final, but for me I was honestly just unbeatable there.
‘The final felt effortless, it felt good. But that’s the level you have to be at to win these days. That’s how crazy this game has become. That’s how crazy you have to be to beat people like Michael. I look up to him a lot.
‘To win a European Tour title two years after the day I won my first title is really very special.’
The win was Humphrie’s sixth success on the European tour and netted six 180s
