Luka Modric and Real Madrid reach ‘total agreement over contract renewal’ and will ‘stay until 2024’

Luka Modric and Real Madrid reach ‘full agreement on his contract extension’ with the Croat ‘intending to stay at Bernabeu until 2024’ – with Carlo Ancelotti keen to use his experience to help Jude Bellingham

  • Luka Modric has reached ‘full agreement’ with Real Madrid on a new contract
  • Reports suggest the Croat will sign a contract extension ‘in the coming days’
  • The new deal is expected to keep the 37-year-old at the Bernabeu until 2024

Luka Modric has reportedly reached a ‘complete agreement’ with Real Madrid over his contract extension, with the midfielder ‘remaining at the club until 2024’.

According to Relev‘the terms have been agreed and the contracts have been drawn up and approved by both parties’, with the 37-year-old determined to ‘remain in the club’s second salary bracket, behind only Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard’.

While the extension has yet to be formalised, the Croat, whose current contract expires in June, is expected to sign the paperwork “in the coming days”.

Modric remains a doubt for Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final against Manchester City on Tuesday after suffering a thigh injury late last month, but according to the Spanish outlet, he could execute the deal in the days before the game.

It comes as Modric had previously dispelled rumors that he could join former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo who would play in Saudi Arabia, making his intention to stay at the club clear in March, saying: “I hope and believe I will stay at Real Madrid.”

Revelo reports that he had talks with Florentino Perez last month, “who assured him that the club would offer him a new contract.”

But those meetings were ‘very quick’ as Modric, who had previously signed a one-year contract extension last year, reportedly expressed his desire to continue playing for Los Blancos.

He will now join Toni Kroos, who also appears to have agreed terms to extend his Bernabeu contract for a further 12 months.

But this is no coincidence, as Mail Sport understands Carlo Ancelotti hopes to use Modric and Kroos to aid the transition of potential newcomer Jude Bellingham.

The England midfielder, should he sign for the Galacticos, will become the heir to the Croat’s midfield position.

But it looks like the LaLiga champions are now the front runners to secure the Borussia Dortmund midfielder’s signature.

The 19-year-old will undoubtedly be able to develop under the mentorship of two players who have made 889 combined appearances and won multiple Champions League winners’ medals.

Joining the club from Tottenham Hotspur for £33 million in 2012, Modric has emerged as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, winning the Ballon d’Or in 2018.

With 37 goals and 77 assists for Los Blancos in 480 appearances in all competitions, the Croat’s experience, who has also won five Champions League medals and three LaLiga titles, would make him a fantastic mentor for Bellingham.

Although Madrid have made the midfielder their main target this summer, they will have to pay a high price for him.

And it appears the 2022 Champions League winners have put a cap on how much they will spend to bring him to the football club, with reports suggesting they will not exceed a £105m fee.
