Legendary striker Luis Suarez and his family said goodbye to a stadium full of fans after playing his final match for Gremio.
Suarez went out in style, scoring the only goal of the match in Gremio's 1-0 win over Vasco da Gama on Sunday evening. After the final whistle, he received a standing ovation from the packed audience.
He was also accompanied on the field by his family for the final farewell. Suarez's two sons – Benjamin and Lauti – and daughter Delfina sprinted across the pitch to give him a hug after the match before his wife Sofia joined them.
“A beautiful chapter in our history has been written by you,” the Brazilian club wrote on social media. “Wherever you are, you will be IMMORTAL forever!”
Gremio added: 'It wasn't a dream… farewell to the protagonist of this chapter of our history: victory, purpose and special message for you.'

Suarez is now a free agent and the 36-year-old has been tipped to join Inter Miami. That would see him reunited with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
His departure from the Brazilian club was confirmed by Gremio manager Renato Gaucho earlier this week.
'I feel pain, my body speaks for me. I want to enjoy and then decide for myself after a long career,” Suarez said about his future.
“I need to rest, enjoy my family… then fate will know where I will be in the future.”
The striker has scored 27 goals in 52 appearances for Gremio and Gaucho admitted that Suarez will have a big gap to fill.

'Are we going to miss him? Certainly, without a doubt, he is very loved by everyone,” Gaucho said ahead of Suarez's final match.
'I have had the pleasure of working with a great professional, one of the best in the world and the fourth highest scorer in the world. This void will remain in the coming year as it is not easy to find someone with his talent and abilities.
'If you find someone else, it is not feasible to bring him in financially. Unfortunately, as I said before, it was very difficult for him to stay. Everyone wanted it, but only he could reverse this decision.
Unfortunately, he will leave and there will be a vacuum in Gremio's attack. Then it is up to the board and the president to try to find another striker.
'It was a great pleasure, not only for me, but for the whole club. A man who always gave of himself, an exemplary professional.'

Even at the age of 36, Suarez left his mark on the Brazilian club.
“It's a great sadness for everyone,” Gaucho continued. “He arrived at the beginning of this year, he helped us a lot, the fans were enchanted with him.
'He is an exceptional professional, both on and off the field. He arrived calmly, he let go, played, accepted the games.
'I often wanted to take him out of a training or match, but he wanted to continue. He wants to play every game and that doesn't hurt.'
