Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Luis Diaz is back in training with Liverpool amid the ongoing kidnap situation involving his family.

Diaz’s parents were snatched from the streets of their hometown in Colombia’s La Guajira region on Saturday by four armed men on motorcycles while they were buying watermelons at a gas station.

While Diaz’s mother Cilenis Marulanda was released later that evening, Diaz Snr remains a hostage as the Colombian police and military work together in an attempt to bring him home safely.

A major manhunt has been underway since then and local authorities have blamed Colombia’s last remaining rebel group Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional (ELN), which translates as the National Liberation Army.

Diaz’s mother was left in a car by kidnappers as police closed in, but the gunmen dragged his father away.

Liverpool forward Diaz, 26, had remained in England after learning of the events on Saturday evening.

He was not involved in Sunday’s win over Nottingham Forest or Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory against Bournemouth.

However, ahead of Sunday’s trip to Luton, Reds boss Klopp confirmed the Colombian was back in training.

“We have to see how he goes and go from there,” he said at the pre-match press conference.

‘Anything that gives us a little hope is good, we are waiting for good news. It’s all about him, whether he makes himself available or not.”
