Australian television presenter and football pundit Lucy Zelic has criticized people who dismiss the role of ‘housewives’ in society – before addressing the personal sacrifices she has made to raise her family.

Zelic, 37, is married to former A-League footballer Corey Gamiero, and the couple have one child, daughter Mila.

Zelic responded to a story from the US about the The wife of recently retired NFL star Jason Kelce was targeted online for being a full-time mother.

The Philadelphia Eagles legend – who won a Super Bowl title in 2017 and is the brother of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis – commented: “Our marriage is a partnership, we are equals figuring it out every day.

“The only expectation is that we love each other, support each other and are committed to our family, that is paramount.”

It comes as Kelce also weighed in on the Harrison Butker saga after revealing his wife Kylie was ‘frustrated’ by the Kansas City Chiefs NFL star’s now infamous college speech.

Butker sparked controversy earlier this month when he addressed graduates at Benedictine College, claiming that women should prioritize being “homemakers” rather than pursuing a career.

He then took aim at the LGBTQ+ community and abortion advocates in a divisive speech.

The Chiefs kicker, who helped his team win the Super Bowl in February, has come under heavy criticism for his comments, with Kansas City superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes distancing himself from his teammate’s views.

And on their latest episode New Heights podcastKelce spoke with his Chiefs star brother Travis about Butker’s speech.

“He gives a speech at a Catholic university, and shockingly… it ended up being a very religious and Catholic speech.

“I can also recognize that not everyone has to be a housewife if that’s not what they want to do in life.

“I’ve had so many people ask me, what would you do if your daughters had to sit there and listen to someone tell them—after they’d just gotten a college degree—that they should just sign up to be a housewife?

‘I understand what the fuss is about, because I know that certain groups in this country have been persecuted for a long time.

“And women in particular, obviously my wife… I think she was a little frustrated by some of Harrison’s comments.”
