Lucy Mecklenburgh reveals she has been diagnosed with endometriosis and says she was shocked because she ‘didn’t have the typical symptoms’

Lucy Mecklenburgh has shared her shock at being recently diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis after experiencing ‘common symptoms’.

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

Meanwhile, adenomyosis is a gynecological condition that causes endometrial tissue in the uterine lining to grow into the muscular wall of the uterus.

The former TOWIE star, 32, this week opened up about having the ‘serious’ condition as she told her followers it has ‘really affected her’ since having Lilah, 21 months.

The mother of two said she was surprised by the diagnosis as her symptoms did not include menstrual pain and fertility problems, which are usually linked to endometriosis.

Lucy shared a photo of This Morning sharing a segment on the condition and praised them for raising awareness about the subject.

She wrote: ‘Well done this morning. For something that is so common in women, there really isn’t much information available and as I now realize, there is a huge lack of research!

‘It’s so great to see there’s a lot more talk about endometriosis. After more than a year of testing, I recently got the answer, which was quite severe endometriosis and adenomyosis.

She revealed that she is still finding her feet since the diagnosis, saying: “I’m not quite ready to talk about it yet, I’m just dealing with it and processing it myself for now…

‘But I didn’t have the symptoms I associated with endo, which was period pain and fertility problems, so it was a huge shock to me, but it has really affected me in other ways since having Lilah.’

A few days later, Lucy shared a photo of her stomach and revealed that she suffered from bloating as one of the symptoms of the condition.

She said: ‘The joys of endometriosis and adenomyosis. I’m actually tired of trying to hide the bloating I get 80 percent of the time.

‘This is actually a bit of a bloat for me. I’ve tried every Spanx, every supplement (even though I knew they probably wouldn’t work), eating right and exercising helps tremendously. But the fear of the approaching spring/summer and wearing swimwear and summer clothes in general really gets to me.

‘I know there are so many worse things, but it’s so awful not to have control over symptoms like bloating, even with a healthy lifestyle. Advice very welcome.’

Lucy’s husband Ryan is currently taking part in ITV’s Dancing On Ice with his professional skating partner Amani Fancy.

This week he opened up about falling twice during his appearance on Sunday night’s episode of Dancing On Ice.

The actor, 39, took to the ice to skate to the song Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat from the show Guys & Dolls during Musicals Week.

But Ryan was left red-faced as he fell face first to the ice before getting back up and landing back on the rink moments later.

Ryan has since admitted in an Instagram post on Tuesday that the falls were a “tough pill to swallow” but vowed to “reset and get going again” for his next skate.

“I don’t want to shy away from my mistakes,” Ryan wrote. ‘I have to own it, learn from it, move on, reset and go again!

“After the second fall, I wanted the ground to swallow me, but hearing all your cheers gives me the courage to finish!”

He added: “And to everyone back home who voted from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

‘I honestly didn’t expect it, it really meant a lot. I can’t believe I have to do it all again on Sunday.’

Despite his falls, former Coronation Street star Ryan received a score of 5.5 from guest judge Johnny Weir, and scores of 6.5 each from Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill and Oti Mabuse, giving him a total of 25.
