However, Tom, 56, couldn’t resist lashing out at Luann, 57, saying she’s the ‘complete opposite’ of his ‘elegant, low-key’ fiancé Danielle Rollins (pictured)

“We got engaged last year. She’s very Southern, very feminine,’ he continued.

Tom popped the question to Danielle on New Year’s Eve 2021 – the date which would have been his sixth wedding anniversary to Luann, from whom he split in August 2017 after less than a year of marriage.

And while Tom may believe his current relationship is a better fit for him than his romance with Luann, he still has some nice things to say about his former husband.

“I love Luann. I wouldn’t have married her if I didn’t… [although] they say blind love,” he joked.

“Standing back and looking at it, it was a lot of fun — we had a lot of fun while it lasted.”

As for why his ex-wife has yet to find her own match, Tom said he believes her celebrity status may put potential suitors off — explaining that he feels she’s changed since reaching the dizzying heights of fame.

“There’s not enough oxygen in the room,” he said. “It’s very, very hard to be with a woman who has two sides to her. The original Luann was from Connecticut.

“She was a great, strong person, but then the celebrity got her.”

Exactly six years later, Tom asked Danielle what would have been his sixth wedding anniversary with Luann.

Tom claimed that Luann initially agreed to quit the reality show in the early stages of their relationship – but that never happened, and instead the cameras kept rolling as they tied the knot on New Year’s Eve, capturing every moment there as their romance. fell apart.

In her wedding speech, Luann told their 250 guests who attended the West Palm Beach wedding, “When Tom walks into a room, my heart skips a beat — I’m so proud to be Tom’s wife.”

Months before their wedding, Luann moved into Tom’s $1.5 million Upper East Side apartment.

Luann divorced her first husband, Count Alexander de Lesseps, in 2009. The former couple share two children Victoria, 28, and Noel, 27.

Having held the title of Countess during her marriage, Luann forfeited her aristocratic title when she married Tom in 2016.

However, Luann was left “devastated” and “heartbroken” by Tom’s infidelity during their short-lived union.

During their marriage, she told friends she believed New Yorker Tom was using her for fame and “really loved the spotlight.”

“He cheated on her twice and she found out,” a close friend of the Luann told DailyMail.com.

After the surprise engagement, Danielle showed off her sapphire and diamond engagement ring in a post captioned, ‘Woke up like this’

“It’s just a matter of he can’t be faithful. He has been single all his life so it was very difficult for him to adjust to married life.

“It’s just crazy—he’s never been able to be faithful and that’s what it comes down to.”

A second source confirmed: “He cheated on her twice. He didn’t give up his bachelor life, which she really didn’t sign up for.’

Their split came to a head on the Bravo show when Luann, who had been married for seven months, discovered that Tom had cheated on her twice.

Friends showed Luann a photo of Tom seemingly kissing her RHONY co-star Ramona Singer.

And when she uncovered more evidence of his affairs, de Lesseps confronted the businessman at a New York restaurant, leading to a physical fight.

Tom says the public interest in their marriage meant their marriage was doomed from the start and implied that her celebrity was the cause of the breakup.

‘It [celebrity] is like a drug: when we got together she said she was going to get off that show. I now understand why people pay for their privacy,” he told DailyMail.com.
