Luana Andrade, 29, dies after liposuction on her knee: the Brazilian influencer suffered four cardiac arrests
Brazilian influencer Luana Andrade died on Tuesday, a day after undergoing liposuction on her knee at a hospital in the southeastern city of São Paulo.
Andrade, 29, had the procedure performed by a private doctor and anesthesiologist hired by her family, São Luiz Hospital said in a statement.
About two and a half hours after the operation, the model went into cardiac arrest.
“The operation was interrupted and the patient underwent tests that revealed a massive thrombosis,” the hospital said. ‘She was transferred to the ICU where she underwent medication and haemodynamic treatment.’
She was pronounced dead around 5:30 am on Tuesday. The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism.
The operating physician and anesthesiologist, whose names have not been released, had not commented Wednesday morning.

‘I am torn and living my worst nightmare. A part of me left,” her boyfriend of two years, Joao Hadad, wrote on Instagram.
“We have built a beautiful story and lived our dreams intensely,” he added. “Besides being a friend, you are and always will be a partner beyond life, my love. … You are my light, princess. I ask that you continue to watch over me and all of us from above. I will always love you, from now until eternity!’
Brazilian star footballer Neymar mourned the sudden death of Andrade, a day after thieves broke into the home of his girlfriend and daughter and took her parents hostage.
‘Sad day with two very bad news. First there was the attack that Bru’s parents (Bruna Bincardi) had to endure, but thank God everyone is doing well!’ he wrote in Portuguese. ‘Second, the death of a friend. My condolences to the entire family, may God welcome Luana with open arms.’
Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina was critical of the surgery his friend Andrade underwent, accusing social media and the media of constantly showing content of women seeking perfection for their bodies.
‘Today I lost a friend due to ‘simple’ aesthetic procedures. The world is surreal, people… especially you women,” he wrote. ‘There is an urgent need to end this standard of ‘perfect’ bodies that are impossible to achieve, displayed on Instagram and in the media.
‘Why risk your life for nothing? “I can’t understand it,” he added. ‘We are young, we have several other ways to feel good, healthy and beautiful. This fake world will end up killing more and more young people.”

The São Luiz Hospital said Brazilian influencer and model Luana Andrade went into cardiac arrest about two and a half hours after surgery on Monday before dying around 5.30am on Tuesday.

Dr. Eduardo Teixeira, of Brazil’s College of Plastic Surgery, told Brazilian news outlet Metropoles that the procedure Andrade underwent was “just like any other.”
“There is no risk-free operation, nor any medical procedure that does not carry any risk, especially if it is a surgical procedure,” Teixeira explained. ‘This necessarily involves an invasive technique requiring anesthesia, both local and general.’
Dr. Diovane Ruaro, a plastic surgeon and president of the College of Plastic Surgery, told the newspaper that Andrade appeared to be in good health.
“An adequate pre-operative procedure was performed, but unfortunately this fatal accident occurred, which saddens us,” Ruaro said. “Plastic surgeries, including liposuction, can even have boring and sometimes fatal complications.”

Born and raised in São Paulo, Andrade moved four months ago to the nearby state of Espírito Santo, where she lived with Hadad.
She had been working since April as a stage assistant for Domingo Legal, a program that aired on Sundays on the SBT network.
Celso Portiolli, a host on the program, attended Andrade’s wake Wednesday morning and recalled that she was in good spirits during the show’s taping on Sunday.
‘It was an unexpected loss. She was a colleague who was going through a very special moment,” Portiolli told Revista Quem. ‘When I heard the news, I was shocked. The whole team was quite shocked.”
Andrade was known for her role alongside Hadad in the reality show Power Couple Brasil 6, which aired in 2022.
She also owned her own clothing brand, Lukand.
