LS election results: Vote shares of both BJP, Congress increase in Assam
According to EC statistics, the vote shares of both the BJP and the Congress have increased by over one percent in the Lok Sabha elections in Assam.
The vote share of the saffron party, which won nine of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state, increased by 1.02 percent from 36.41 percent in 2019 to 37.43 percent in 2024, while that of the Congress, which won three constituencies secured, rose. by 1.69 percent, from 35.79 percent in the previous elections to 37.48 percent this time.
However, the overall vote share of the NDA, which won 11 seats in Assam, registered a marginal decline of 0.45 percent.
The vote share of NDA ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which managed to win a Lok Sabha seat after ten years, fell from 8.31 percent in 2019 to 6.46 percent in 2024.
The NDA’s other eligible constituent in Assam, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), opened its account in the Lok Sabha by winning the Kokrajhar seat, giving it a vote share of 2.43 percent in the state.
The AIUDF suffered the biggest loss, with President Badruddin Ajmal losing to Dhubri, whom he had represented for three consecutive terms, by a huge margin of over 10 lakh votes, and its vote share falling from 7.87 percent to 3.13 percent.
The AIUDF had contested the three seats of Dhubri, Nagaon and Karimganj and finished second in one and third in the remaining two.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested the Dibrugarh and Sonitpur constituencies, finishing third in both and securing a vote share of 0.85 percent.
The Trinamool Congress contested three seats and got a vote share of 0.37 per cent, while the Left parties, CPI and CPI(M), which contested one seat each, got a combined vote share of 0.58 per cent.
The vote share of independent candidates was 6.22 percent, while NOTA accounted for 1.19 percent of the total vote share.
The elections to the 14 Assembly seats were held in three phases on April 19, April 26 and May 7, with 81.56 percent of the total electorate of 2.45 crore exercising voting rights.
