The internet is going crazy for Do Revenge right now. At the time of writing, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s coming-of-age comedy is the second-biggest movie on Netflix and a much bigger talking point in various parts of social media.
Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train, the film follows two college students from completely different social circles, Drea (Camila Mendes) and Eleanor (Maya Hawke), who form an unlikely alliance in an attempt to exact sweet revenge on the bullies who have ruined. their lives.

Mean Girls (2004)
Let’s start with the obvious. If you liked Do Revenge for its references to sleep classics from the mid-1990s, then you’ve almost certainly seen Mean Girls from 2004 – but hey, we couldn’t. not can we include it in a list of similar movies?
From the mind of comic genius Tina Fey, in Mark Waters’ genre-defining teen drama, Lindsay Lohan stars as Cady, a naive high school newbie whose popularity skyrockets when she empathizes with the Plastics, a cabal of over-privileged and image-rich obsessed college students led by Rachel McAdams’ Regina George.

Easy A (2010)
The world has Easy A to thank for putting Oscar winner Emma Stone on the map as one of Hollywood’s most gifted protagonists.
Partly inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 novel The Scarlet Letter, Stone stars as Olive, an inconspicuous high school student whose well-intentioned lie about losing her virginity spirals out of control when others catch wind of her fake bedroom antics.
Do Revenge bears clear resemblance to Easy A’s setting and rumor-fueled premise, but both films also feature well-written, versatile characters who aren’t always the obvious good guys we want them to be.

The Other Woman (2014)
Okay, The Other Woman isn’t strictly a teen drama, but it’s nonetheless a movie in which revenge (in this case against a sleazy, triple man) plays a key role.
In the film, Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton play three women β Carly, Kate and Amber respectively β who team up to take out Mark, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, a charismatic businessman whom they all secretly see. instantly. Hormone pills, depilatory cream, and water with laxative are all part of the trio’s Mean Girls-style plans, making The Other Woman, like Do Revenge, an incredibly satisfying story with a horrifying payback.

Loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, ββClueless Alicia Silverstone stars as Cher, a beautiful and popular high school girl who begins to question her own existence while playing matchmaker for some hard-hitting teachers.
Of course, both movies are similar. But they also take similar swipes at a very specific brand of pastel high school fantasy β Fashion (opens in new tab) calls it the “bubblegum dreamworld” – by transposing their respective source material in a way that feels accessible.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
10 Things I Hate About You is not so much a movie about revenge as an unlikely alliance.
In Gil Junger’s 1999 comedy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Cameron, a young college student who enlists the help of a mysterious bad boy (Heath Ledger) to help him date a popular girl (Larisa Oleynik) whose father isn’t her boyfriend. wants to get one, unless her moody sister (Julia Stiles) gets one too. The film is essentially a contemporary reinterpretation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, and is so named after a poem written by Kat (the sister) describing her bittersweet romance with Patrick.
Sure, that synopsis doesn’t read much like Do Revenge’s – but 10 Things I Hate About You is also at its best when the seemingly opposing main characters find solace in their common ground.
