The pair linked up during the 2023 winter series, but decided to go their separate ways just a few weeks after arriving in the UK, with some program fans accusing them of having a show.

But 24-year-old Maxwell insisted they had grown apart when they returned from South Africa, where the show was filmed, insisting that “other things” diverted his attention.

He told the Murad Merali podcast“The main thing I would say with the whole situation, when you’re in the villa and even right behind the villa, but you’re still in South Africa together, it’s a very different environment.

“All you have to focus on during that period is each other and just being on vacation together and it’s pretty easy to have a great time when you’re on vacation.”

“But once you get home and there’s all this other stuff going on, take your attention and focus.”

Maxwell added that he wasn’t sure if he saw the pair together far into the future, explaining: “It really gives you a chance to look at it and think if this situation is really going to last or is it that we being connected and really went well, but out in the real world we’re just not so sure it will last as long.”
