Louisiana man sentenced to 45 years in prison for kidnapping and attempting to murder gay teen

A Louisiana man was sentenced to 45 years in prison Wednesday after he kidnapped and attempted to murder Jeffrey Dahmer-style gay teenagers in an attempt to “satisfy a compulsive murder fantasy.”

Chance Seneca, 21, pleaded guilty in September to kidnapping charges after it was revealed he used the dating app Grindr and Snapchat to persuade men to meet with the goal of “murdering and dismembering” them.

Seneca spent months refining his murder and kidnapping plan to reflect Dahmer’s actions of targeting gay men, killing them, and eating and preserving their bodies, the Justice Department wrote in a news release.

The first victim of the attempted serial killer was then 18-year-old Holden White, whom Seneca successfully convinced and used various methods to try and kill him.

“The facts of this case are truly shocking, and the defendant’s decision to specifically target gay men is a disturbing reminder of the unique biases and dangers facing the LGBTQ+ community today,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke.

Seneca, who is also gay, took White to an isolated home in Lafayette Parish, where he pulled out a gun and forced the victim into handcuffs on June 19, 2020.

White was then stabbed, strangled, and beaten by Seneca until the kidnapper believed he was dead.

“Seneca then attempted to dismember him,” the press release reads.

While it appeared that Seneca had plans to attack other gay men, he later called the Lafayette police and confessed to killing a man. The police affidavit said that Seneca requested to be committed to a mental institution.

A hammer, saw and ice pick were found at the crime scene.

White was able to survive the attack and spent days in a coma and about a month in the hospital.

It is later revealed that Seneca also used the dating app to meet another gay man the night before White was attacked, but decided to allow the man to survive.

He attended the hearing and spoke about lingering physical and mental pain from the attack, including loss of feeling in his left hand, according to The Advocate.

While Seneca was sentenced to decades in prison, White fears it won’t be enough.

“I’m afraid for myself and for other future victims that I might harm,” White said. “I’m afraid that an 18-year-old like me will change her life forever because of a date… I don’t need anyone to get hurt like I did.”

The Netflix series based on the famous serial killer Jeffery Dahmer premiered in September 2022 and starred Evan Peters. It quickly became one of the most watched shows on the streaming platform at the time.
