A statement of probable cause filed by the Monroe Police Department stated that the 21-year-old broke into the funeral home between 11 a.m. and noon on April 7 after hours.

The report added that the “victim,” whose name has not been given, “advised Richard to enter the embalming room with several corpses present after the autopsy.”

It continued: “The victim stated that Richard videotaped several corpses via FaceTime using his cell phone and showed the corpses to an acquaintance while the business was closed to the public.”

“Richard was not an official employee at the funeral home and was told he was not allowed to enter the embalming room without permission.”

According to police, Richard refused to answer questions and was handcuffed and transported to the Ouachita Correctional Center.

Richard was released the next day after posting $1,500 bail.

He was originally scheduled to appear in court on April 12, but the hearing has been moved to May 18.

It comes months after a Colorado funeral home owner was sentenced to 20 years in prison for selling hundreds of corpses to medical examiners and giving fakes to grieving families.

Megan Hess, 48, and her mother, Shirley Koch, 69, transferred bodies and body parts from their Sunset Mesa Funeral Home in the western city of Montrose to third parties for investigation without the grieving families’ knowledge before charging them $1,000 for fake cremations . authorities said.

A former employee of the funeral home, which Hess and Koch ran together, said the 48-year-old made $40,000 by pulling and selling the gold teeth of some of the deceased.

Grand Junction District Judge Christine Arguello sentenced Hess to the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to mail fraud in November under a plea deal that dropped other charges against her.

Koch was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
