Lottie Fry wins Olympic bronze in individual dressage with brilliant routine as Team GB keep up equestrian medal charge
- Lottie Fry rode a brilliant ride at Glamourdale on Sunday to win bronze
- The Team GB star held off a nervous late finish to secure her medal
- Charlotte Dujardin would likely have been among the favourites for the event
Team GB claimed another Olympic medal in dressage as Lottie Fry produced a stunning performance in the individual freestyle at Glamourdale on Sunday.
Her ride would have earned her a medal if Charlotte Dujardin had been among the favourites for gold before she withdrew from the Games in shocking circumstances.
Four years ago, footage surfaced showing Dujardin whipping a horse during training, leading to fierce criticism of the sport, with some calling for it to be banned from the Olympics.
Meanwhile, Fry endured a nerve-wracking final wait for her bronze medal. Denmark’s Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour was the last competitor in the event, but she only managed fifth place.
Fry scored 88.971% in the Glamourdale to finish third in the event, while Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl won gold and her teammate Isabell Werth took silver.

It follows her success alongside Cal Hester and Becky Moody in Saturday’s team event, where the Team GB trio also won bronze.
Hester and Moody finished sixth and eighth in the individual performances on Sunday, while Fry won a third Olympic medal with a stunning ride at the Chateau de Versailles.
Her success continues Team GB’s bid for medals at the Paris Olympics, where they have now won five awards across two different equestrian disciplines.
The top honours in show jumping and the remaining medals in dressage have provided important figures for Team GB’s overall medal haul at the Games, which puts them fifth in the standings.
There was some hope that six-time Olympic medallist Dujardin would lead the British team to a gold medal at the Games, but she withdrew from the squad the night before the competition.
