Australia’s happiest suburbs to buy a lottery ticket have been revealed after more than 270 Aussies became millionaires this year.

In 2024, more than $1.5 billion in first division prize money was handed out to gamblers.

Several postcodes across the country recorded multiple winning entries from the First Division, with Sydney’s CBD producing four winning entries.

A combined prize money worth $7.8 million was collected by the winning players.

Melbourne was home to four of the five biggest lottery wins in Victoria, while Brisbane sold two Powerball tickets worth $100 million.

Elsewhere, a winning Powerball ticket worth $150 million was sold in Salisbury, north Adelaide, earlier this year.

Lott spokesman Matt Hart said certain players chose to buy their tickets at places where winning entries were previously sold.

“Some players tell us that they consciously choose lottery outlets that have recently sold a large lottery prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing that lightning will not strike twice,” he told us. NCA Newswire.

“While we have seen large numbers of major lottery prizes across Australian states and territories this year, it is important to remember that a win in Division 1 can come anywhere, at any time.”

Queensland

The two winning Powerball tickets worth $100 million were sold in the northern Brisbane suburbs of Bulimba and Chermside earlier this year.

Chermside has sold more than an impressive $164 million worth of winning tickets, according to figures from the Lott.

A Hawthorne woman claimed her winning share of the $200 million Powerball jackpot in February.

A mother, who lives in Aspley, won the winning entry for a $100 million draw in August after almost losing her ticket in the glove compartment of her car.

Elsewhere, Cairns, in Far North Queensland, sold four winning Division I entries with a combined prize fund worth $4.2 million.

Three winning tickets worth $3 million were sold in the Hervey Bay suburb of Urraween, in the state’s Fraser Coast region.

N.S.W

Although Sydney claimed the most winning entries in the First Division, there were several residents in the city’s west who also took home an eye-watering amount of prize money.

Three lucky players took home a combined $6.4 million in earnings from submissions to news agencies and outlets in Cabramatta.

Liverpool and Blacktown were among the suburbs that completed the top five to claim major lottery wins in Harbor City this year.

A couple bought the winning ticket for the $40 million jackpot in July from a Cellarbrations store in Kenthurst, northwest Sydney.

Dozens of winning entries were also sold across the Hunter and Central Coast regions of northern NSW, with 22 winners taking home a total of $133 million.

Four of the top five wins were sold through online tickets, with the couple, who won the $40 million jackpot, purchasing the only winning ticket sold in-store.

NSW is home to the highest number of millionaires from lottery wins, after 80 lucky Aussies across the state scooped triple the amount in the last eleven months.

Victoria welcomed the second most millionaires with 54 wins, followed by WA with 42.

South Australia with 17 wins, followed by Tasmania with 7 wins, rounded out the top five states.

Victoria

There were 13 suburbs in Melbourne’s CBD that sold $13 million worth of winning tickets this year.

Niddrie in the city’s northwest and Preston in Melbourne’s northeast were among the top five suburbs where players made winning entries.

A man in his 20s from Preston took home a whopping $50 million in November, while another lucky winner from North Geelong, in southern Victoria, took home $12 million with a Powerball win.

Victoria has been crowned the luckiest state after 135 residents claimed victory in Division 1, handing out almost $247,000,000 in prize money.

South Australia

This year, several winning Division I entries were sold in South Australia, including $8 million paid out to one person who bought an Oz Lotto ticket online.

Another winning ticket was sold in Salisbury, with the lucky player winning $1 million.

The second happiest suburb in the state this year was Kadina, a rural town on the Yorke Peninsula, in the state’s southeast.

Two separate players raised a combined $5.4 million after winning tickets sold in the area.

Western Australia

Morley, in Perth’s north-east, was the luckiest suburb to pick a winning ticket in Washington this year after three tickets worth almost $3 million were sold.

Mundaring, in Perth’s east, and Mandurah, about an hour’s drive south of the city, each sold two winning tickets.

The winning ticket for October’s $30 million Powerball jackpot was sold at the Malaga News Agency, north of Perth.

The ticket for the second biggest win was recorded in Northam, in Washington’s Wheatbelt region, with the winner taking home $4.8 million.

Tasmania, Northern Territory and the ACT

Tasmania sold 11 winning tickets worth $15 million, with the biggest win worth $3.75 million recorded in Lindisfarne, northeast of Hobart.

A retired man from Bicheno, eastern Tasmania, won $1.2 million in October.

Four winning tickets worth almost $7 million were sold in the Northern Territory, with $4.8 million being the biggest win.

Two tickets worth almost $4 million were sold during the ACT.
