Los Angeles prosecutor will NOT retry disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein on rape and sexual assault charges

BREAKING NEWS: Los Angeles prosecutors will NOT retry disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein on rape and sexual assault charges involving the wife and model of California Governor Newsom, leaving the jury deadlocked

Los Angeles prosecutors have announced they will not retry Harvey Weinstein on sexual assault charges, leaving the jury deadlocked.

Weinstein, 70, was charged with sexual assault in connection with model Lauren Young in 2013 and rape by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, in 2005.

But jurors were unable to reach a verdict on his two counts last year, meaning the disgraced director faces the possibility of a new trial for those incidents.

Prosecutors have now confirmed that they will not press for further convictions against the movie mogul, who is already serving 16 years in prison for assaulting an unidentified Russian-born Italian model.

Weinstein was already serving a 23-year sentence on separate convictions for rape and sexual assault in New York when he was convicted of rape, forced oral copulation and sexual penetration with a foreign object.

Weinstein, 70, was charged with sexual assault in connection with a masseur in 2010 and rape by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, in 2005.

His latest sentence, which will only begin when he completes his sentence in New York, came after a rape at the Mr C Beverly Hills hotel in February 2013.

The charges related to a series of assault claims that the jury failed to reach a verdict on last year.

Each of those charges was formally dismissed Tuesday, after Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison in February.

This is a developing story.
