Lorne shed fire kills man as cops launch an investigation

A man has died after a fire flooded a shed in a Victorian seaside town.

Emergency services were called to a house on Howard Street Lorne, in Victoria's south-west, about 8.45am on Sunday.

According to police, a man was found deceased in a shed next to the building.

The man has yet to be formally identified but it is believed he is not a resident of the property.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics treated and transported a man in his 40s to Lorne Hospital with injuries to his upper body, police said. Geelong Advertiser.

It is understood that his condition is stable.

The property is believed to be a holiday home available to rent.

A nearby resident told the Geelong Advertiser he saw the smoke from Deans Marsh Rd about 8.30am on Sunday morning.

According to the resident, a man who lived nearby tried to go into the shed to help, but “something exploded” and hit him in the shoulder.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances behind the fire.
